i like stupid names
ilikepie is fun and doesn't break the CoC
if it hadn't been for a little test i tried when creating my first charachter my name here would have been kayaksnail.
that said there are bound to be some offensive names out there and i'm sure they are delt with properly.

I have a problem with stupid names and that includes 'ilikepie'.
It may not be against the current naming conventions but it is in bad form. (its a sentence for goodness sake!)
In RL people form their first impressions of a person based on how they look or sound. In an MMORPG, with all of the toons looking more-or-less the same its based on your name and what you say.
I do not take the person who plays a toon named something like 'ilikepie', 'punkedoutbarbie', or even 'nymphet' seriously and I consider the person with scorn - they clearly aren't even making a half-arsed attempt to fit into the world.
Names that attempt to make a toon/person feel something are also in bad form. I normally see this in sexually suggestive names, in which case my feeling is the person needs to check in with a chat room to do their cybering - the names of their toons certainly advertise their services.
Nevrax is of course free to ignore or inforce the rules as they see fit - it is their world after all.
All in all the problem is two-fold.
1) the naming conventions were written assuming people would be mature
2) not everyone who creates a toon is mature

Its getting reduntant, as much as I'd like to admit, and useless. Its been officially stated by Souls if you feel a name is in violation of the CoC, simply report it and it will be delt with. Simple as that. Although, if I notice it isn't delt with, I'd be poking someone again!
So its useless really to say if youlikepie or notlikepie or whatever. If you dont like it, report it.
*resumes digging*

some of the most long standing and most respected players in the game have silly names. i think the comunity on the whole is mature enough to see past silly names and to see how homins play the game. you may not like the names but do you really think players like rundll doubletap snake and many others that are not 'rp names' would have gotten so far if people had just shunned them because they had a silly name? the reason why they are so successful is not due to them having a 'sensible' name
(appologies to those mentioned)

Major reason is because a complete sentence isn't a 'name'. It's a sentence. Writing a full sentence in the character name slot, is already a misuse of the naming function. Its not there so you can make a dippy joke-phrase that hovers over your character's head while you play, its where you're supposed to choose a NAME.
I don't mind unorthodox names at all. But anything that's using adverbs and pronouns, is just an abuse of the naming system.

So, who decides what is an rp name or not?
You never met Snake Plisken?
I think some words alsoare good names

A name someone may consider foolish may have signifigance to the creator. My main Kilgoretrout probably fits into your silly name catagory. Those who realize who Kilgore Trout is send me tells all the time telling me how much they enjoy the reference. My latest charachter Zweihander has recieved a bashing in uni over what a stupid name. Zwei is named after my favorite planet in Earth and Beyond. It may translate to two hander in German but that is not what I was thinking at the creation screen. BTW Nymphet is a fine homin and didn't deserve her name being used as an example. I have seen offensive names and Nymphet doesn't qualify.-Kilgoretrout

thats the whole point. i have met the charachters i mentioned in my post and find them to be some of the most respected and respectable homins in the game. i was trying to get across the point that people shoudl look past the names of charachters and judge on play style. i have met some great homins with silly names and some silly homins with great names.
think of the old saying: 'don't judge a book by it's cover'
