Re: Poll: Do you enjoy PvP

An RPG is very different to Counterstrike and the other examples that were given. That's the point that was trying to be made I think. The personal investment made into a role-playing character in terms of time, emotion and story is considerably more than that put into an FPS. These things ARE personal to a character.elijstar wrote:You take it personally? That's a big mistake.
The waste is in thoughtless and selfish people who place their own personal enjoyment far and away above that of absolutely anyone else. That's poison in any game that includes a community as an aspect of what it is.elijstar wrote:You have to have a sense of humor about it. When I read a post from someone crying that they got ganked here or there and why it was a pain and how cruel and bad it was or whatever, it makes me giggle because it's such a waste of energy.
This is only true if there isn't content inextricably linked to that PvP and only accessable through it. If the PvP only supplies PvP bonuses, then there's no problem, if it interferes or blocks creative, crafting or other non-PvP content then no, it isn't really your decision. To get the most out of non-PvP content you are forced to endure a gauntlet of PvP.elijstar wrote:If I'm in an open pvp area then it's my decision and I simply can't complain if I get mobbed or ganked.
Why, if someone is being antisocial and likes fighting, would you reward them by fighting them?elijstar wrote:Sure it can get annoying but what you do is just go do something else for a while, or call your friends out to retaliate. Whining is not a dignified option imho.
Sorry but I find that attitude immature and extremely counterproductive. I don't think annihilating people that much weaker than you is funny at all. Fortunately, outside of OP battles and the roots, you shouldn't get much opportunity to do that.elijstar wrote:The same applies to everyone. If I'm in the mood for pvp and I'm roaming around looking for people to kill in such an area, anyone I find is fair game. I don't care if they're level 1, although I'm not likely to attack someone that low unless they attack me first. In those cases it's funny on both sides almost always.
Yeah, we hear this a lot, usually from the people who gank and spawn camp. So much for the challenge and excitement excuse. >.<elijstar wrote:There is NOTHING as exciting as fighting a real human. It's great, and the bonus is that a Video Game is a totally safe and controlled environment.
I don't mind structured, avoidable PvP. I resent being forced into it and I resent an otherwise very promising game being force down that path in some misguided attempt at wider popularity at the cost to what made it truly appealing and unique. We seem to be moving back towards the original track again which is promising though.elijstar wrote:That having been said, it's a fact that some people simply aren't made to play pvp. The pace, the stress, the confusion, or whatever it may be just overwhelms them. *shrug* It's the same as any human activity that way. One size doesn't fit all.
It's not the 'pace', 'stress', 'confusion' or being 'overwhelmed' it's much more to do with...

One size definately doesn't fit all and being forced to wear pinching six inch stillettos to walk to the shops chafes.
