Soleca, get off the high horse. People who find PvP exciting give other people online a bad name? Wow...just because you don't like something doesn't mean those who do are any worse than you. I guess there well always be a few who get on the, "PvP is evil" and "I'm better than people who like PvP" boats.
I like the fact that you started with "No offense" then went on to say that we need to get lives, give online people a bad name (whatever that means) and are ruining the MMO industry. Just for getting a thrill from PvP.
Hey, you get a thrill from crafting/digging/grinding for hours, great that's your thing. I get a kick out of direct competition with other players. Not just in MMOs but fighting, racing, sports and other competitive type games.
There is nothing wrong with competition or those who like/thrive on it. I still can't believe that people can't express their difference of opinions without slinging insults.

I just want to point out that im expressing my feelings towards PvP - not how it is in this game or how it's implemented, because i have no clue how it's working in this game.
Im a relatively new player so i have just scraped the surface on the story too.

My character can now walk out to the nearest temple and see a stele with a list of point scores on it that were awarded for killing other homins.
You're responding to my comment about outpost battles with comments about episode 2. I agree with ya that the episode 2 thing was badly done. It was too open and seemed like it was intended as a distraction while they finished OP's. I didn't enjoy it.
While the mechanics (points) didn't really fit into the story, the results did. Temples led to appropriate people/place for us to declare our allegiance to one side or the other. Which then leads to the future spires battles.
With Outposts, the whole system seems to have been designed to set friends to fighting each other. Guilds naturally will want an outpost in their home territory, so the fiercest competition for a limited item will be between allies
I don't necessarily agree. There's nothing in the implementation that makes it easier or harder to attack an OP in my home land or one in a foreign land. (Maybe TP location, but I haven't analyzed that fully.) The system isn't designed to prevent it either. It's up to us to either unify or fight amongst ourselves. That's the part that makes it a "living story". We affect the outcome. The gods just gave us outposts; what we do with them is up to us.
To link it to the story, simply read the bootup screens as you start the game. The Karavan and Kami want us to have a stronger military and resource presence in preparation of a larger war between them. They want the strong to hold these OP, so they make it via direct competition. So, it does fit in... so far. Have we heard the whole story? No, not yet. Next in the increasing militarization will be Spires.
To argue that it doesn't fit into the story implies that you know what the story is supposed to be. It doesn't contradict anything yet. It may be changing in a direction you don't like and I can understand that. It's taken me a while to adjust my thinking to find enjoyment in this changing world.
Even the open faction PvP can be said to be story based. I don't like it, but they gave me the option to leave it off, so I'm ok for now.

*sighs at the people who seem to think the only activities possible in an MMORPG are grinding and PvP*

I didn't say anything about easier or harder. How many guilds do you know of that want their outpost to be in some land other than their home land? Sure, most will take any outpost over no outpost, but the hottest competition (and much of the heated debate) has been between previously friendly/allied guilds.

I do, every time I log on. And every time I think what a poor job they have done of trying to come up with some justification for the stuff they are throwing into the game. It is incredibly simplistic and implies that homins have very limited intelligence if they are expected to blindly follow the line that is fed them
.

No, I am just looking at what is introduced and seeing how it doesn't fit with what was already existing. Maybe at some point the designers will try to reconcile the bits that make no sense, but even then it will be a very poor case of storytelling. Foreshadowing is the art of preparing your audience for change so that they are not jarred out of the story when the change hits. Instead we are just being hit with big changes and are left to assume that there must be some storyline explanation rather than just a gameplay explanation.

Actually no you've completely misread or misunderstood what I meant. So crack up all you want.
I'm not saying pvp is wrong as a choice, I've been known to do it myself.
I'm saying that getting a thrill or adrenalise rush from killing someone else in an online game is a little sad.
Have I spelt things out a little clearer there, and I can assure you my nudity isn't for a real life thrill it's for the amusement of people ingame.
Oh and a guy with the name sk8errs can hardly just another homin or human being about anything now can they...
