I think that a lot of the players will actually pick a side, while a minority of the players will remain neutral. That being said, the effects you mention will be a lot less severe. GoC will still be very busy. PR will still have people leveling in it. there will just a be a few people who can't be bothered to make a hike to them.

Actually, the effects WILL be more severe than you could wish for. Remember something called global FvF comming 'soon'? I think Kami followers can forget about their foraging in GoC for instance as there' s no doubt that region along with a lot of other Matis regions will become controlled by Karavan spires, while most Fyrosian and Zorai regions will be Kami controlled. (seen from staus quo pov)

Now what did we learn about fame, faction and Altars? 1) you will not be able to use an opposing faction' s Altar; 2) you will not be able to use your own faction' s Altar if the region is being occupied by the opposing faction.

So we are going to see a severe serious shift in territorial occupancy no matter what, people will suddenly be stuck with semi-useless foraging skills no matter what, we will indeed see a new breed of PR foragers, supreme materials along with black and white coloured materials will become (more fought over and) a more rare commodity but all of a sudden: so will some choice and excellent materials, even quartered materials from named mobs.

At first I was a bit reluctant to the changes; I don' t really like getting things you are used to after a year of play or more being hampered, but oh boy, I can already smell the huge profits to be made from smuggling materials from one region to another!

me personally, will still stay neutral it does not matter that i wear kara colors.

restricting true neutrals (as you call them) from accessing pr when it's only thing for them in game makes them leave.
but totenkopf (if i understood it correctly) is probably right, there is too little of them for nevrax to care.

A few questions:

The two lines
Having fame (below -50) too low will make any NPC of this faction willing to kill you on sight (KoS).
Having a medium fame (range from 0 to -30) value will influence NPCs to sell you their goods at a very expensive rate.
Begs the question what about those with fame -30 to -50? Or is one of these two figures a typo?

Is the text:
A character being citizen of a civilization or member of a religion different to the guild, cannot be member of that guild as he does not follow the same way of life.
trying to say the same thing as outlined in the 2nd edition fame changes or does it mean something else?
The changes are rather harsh, so beware before deciding to become neutral.
Can this be expanded upon so that people can make decisions with some real idea of the implications. Do you simply mean that fame points will be limited in the way proposed in the 2nd edition fame document? In which case for some if not many of those that would be neutral there will be little or no change to their fame and therefore "rather harsh" would be misleading.

Guess who went digging on the French boards?

An answer to what 'high-level' regions are to be considered and a bit more explained on accesability of Altars for neutrals.

Marjo (on the french feedback forum) wrote: - Carefull, in the zones below 200, only certain Altars (independant of faction ownership) will be accesible to neutrals, not all.
The 200 and 250 zones won' t offer Pacts to neutrals.
- Neutrals will no longer have access to PR Altars and Pacts either. They will however retain the right to use respawn points near portals.
- They will have access to Nexus.

Oh right, and then this to top it (same source):
To get access to faction owned Altars you will need to have completed the Cult membership rite of the correspondant faction; only having the fame won' t suffice.

(that is if my French hasn' t become to rusty)

between -30 to -50 will just be denial of service from trainers and merchants as 0 to-30 (yellow on new fame bar) is 'weak trading' less than -30 is no trading (red)

Say bye to your neutral playerbase :'(
Oh and I'm saddened that only one board (maybe 2 if the Leanon forums have this too) gets the info all should have been told to begin with.

if you translation hold (babelfish came to same conclusion), then it's scary and funny in the same time.
(neutrals cant get tp's in 200 and 250 zones)

Nevrax really dont like neutrals do they ?

hey Nevrax, anybody home ?.. we need answers NOW

I only found it on the French board Spriteh; the German feedback thread has .... no feedback on it so far.

Anyways, I' m not so sure if this is a major disadvantage really for neutrals; the way I see it everyone is going to have a major disadvantage (rather restriction applied) in some way.

If you divide known Atys in 5 parts, being the Burning Desert, the Witherings, Aeden Aequeus, Verdant Heights and the Prime Roots; each area safe the Prime Roots being divided into 5 lvl regions; then you have 3 factions; Kami, Karavan and neutrals. Now, from the point of view that global FvF comes along and all regions will be 'distributed' or conquored equally, we get:

Kamists have access to the Burning desert, the Witherings and the Prime Roots (ok, and the capitals for Verdant Heights and Aeden);
Jenaists (sp?) have access to Verdant Heights and Aeden and the Prime Roots (again, and both capitals of the Witherings and the Burning Desert);
Neutrals will have access to all regions up to regions of lvl 150 all over known Atys, save the Prime Roots, but including Nexus.

Basically, in this scenario each faction has Altar and Pact access for 3/5th of known Atys.

On top of that neutrals will have a harder time getting Prime Root materials and higher end materials of any given region; Kamists for instance will have a harder time acquiring Matis and Lakeland material components (which will be a blow to certain crafters); granted they can as well make those items themselves if they want with Prime Root materials, which makes those materials more in demand, ... same goes for Jenaists but reversed.

So basically, everyone is going to get hampered. The only problem is we all have been playing very differently before and this is an upcomming big change, so it' s no surprise some don' t like this, some don' t like that; but we are all going to have to make sacrifices; not just one part of the playerbase.

Hmm, good point..
But what's the use in having access to 3/5th of Atys if you can't use any of what you have access to? (too low a zone for your level)

I had a crazy idea just now (very crazy) that came from someone saying that SoR wasn't designed to accept neutrals... Well if Nevrax are so keen on FvF, why not allow Neutrals to make their own TPs... they will be working together for something they believe in (I'm sure we could get enough people to get organised and make some "neutral" TPs). Sure it would take us ages to do it, but we could say that Tryton has pre-ordained/spied that the Cults are going to restrict us so we start building before these restrictions come into play... Yeah, like I said... crazy  Even without the codimg time required, its a gamble as to whether it would actually work or not :o

Personally, I don't mind these changes. But I worry about their overall effect on the playerbase. I don't think that this level of restriction on the tp's of Neutral characters is good. No ticket to Avendale? none to Enchanted Isle, none to PR, that's awful for a neutral homin. Also I think that Neutral guilds should be able to accept everyone, from any Nationality or Creed. It seems to me that Nevrax is gutting Neutrality and is forcing everyone to choose an FvF side. These changes will wreak havoc with many guilds and cause much unhappiness about people being forced to change guild or playstyle.

From a lore and rp consistency perspective, sure the changes look fine. However from a subscriber perspective, will they work? The changes will surely drive away embittered neutral/PvE players, will they be replaced by FvF-loving players? What are the plans for increasing subscribership?

Once the spires are active, you may have to hike into GoC from Yrkanis or even from Fyros lands, Morgaine. I assume that I will be denied easy access to the Void unless the spires are extremely difficult to take or rather easy to destroy.
