A more bitter person than I might say that Nevrax, you catered to a PvP community, now live with it.

A more cynical person than I might say that GrimJim was only banned at his first post because certain people at Nevrax had had enough of having their mistakes and inconsistencies pointed out by him.

A much more cynical (and arguably paranoid) person than I might say that Nevrax was attempting to draw out the flamers/"trolls" (aside: whoever wrote that website on "trolls" needs help.. seriously (disclaimer: should that be anyone working for Nevrax or involved in this game in any way, I didn't know, therefore it's an impersonal attack)) in order that they could ban them from the forum and get them out of their hair.

Luckily, I am neither bitter nor cynical, and rarely paranoid, although a less honest person than me would claim that were it the truth or not.

I actually quite enjoy Jyudas's spirited comments on these boards....as well as those from lots of other people....what really winds me up is when people quote the entire previous post in their own post....now THAT's in the forum rules.....but nobody ever gets bann...umm suspended because of that do they?

Irony is a means of pointing straight at flaws without having to be impolite. Thus, irony is a way of discussing things in this forum that in one's eye need attention without breaking the CoC. Reason, humor, spirit...

True, domestic authority is on one's side. As is the freedom to interpret one's irony as being offensive. Apart from some subscribers being a bit touchy at these times, maybe some of those they subscribed to are becoming touchy as well?
Well, in the end everybody interprets things in the way that suits their intentions most at that point of time. *shrugs*

I think GrimJim was one of the top 3 anti-PvP posters. I am still quite shocked that he was banned though. However, I do think it is past time we all stopped going on about the PvP elements that we do not like in E2.

I like the idea of a rant forum though, so if we just absolutely have to say yet again "well if you dont want PvP dont go there then" then we can say it in the rant forums. Newbies and potential players can then dismess the rant forums if it gets ugly and come back to these lovely forums of sweetness and light.

And yes, a tiny bit of sarcasm and irony at the end there, hope dats ok.

The comments in recent months that I've found the most tiresome are the steady drumbeat from some pro-PvP players: "Shut up. PvP is here to stay!" If anything makes me reluctant to read the forums, it's that. By contrast, Jyudas comments seem quite constructive, albeit tinged with a bit of sarcasm.

If you're trying to create a more positive environment, heavy-handed censorship and a thread titled "trolls and flaming" seems counter-intuitive. May I recommend quietly suspending and PM'ing the offender? Take the opportunity to engage the person directly on the issue instead of inviting comment/anger from the rest of us.

I see, and are we going to see the same level of enforcement of the 'rules' in game? This suspension of forum access smacks of panic in the Nevrax ranks to me.

I have kept out of the discussions about Episode 2, but this sort of 'big brother' treatment of someone whose opinion has always seemed well reasoned to me is certainly not going to encourage me to get involved on the forums.

Back to digging somewhere safe for me.

Honestly, I would almost rather deal with an obvious troll/flamer in a forum than one who constantly breaches topics and opinions which act as a catalyst to draw in said troll/flamer types. It's nice to point a finger at the bad guys, but sometimes you have to take a look at the cause, before targeting the result.

Several people in this forum are well known for posting the same tired, though controversial, topics. Then these same people complain that they are hearing the same arguments, thus continuing to draw more non-troll/flamer types who sometimes step out of their usual character out of frustration.

I am not an advocate of the banning of folks who state an opinion, but I also applaud Nevrax for taking steps to help maintain some level of courtesy in a fairly volatile set of forums. Perhaps there is a better way to handle matters, but as usual, I would rather see something done than nothing, even if I do not entirely agree with the outcome.
