We are superior, that is why you think we feel we are superior.

now if we could facitate some kind of capture the flag game with lot in the middle as suggested. Enter the area, drop 50,000 dapper. The money is in the middle, you can only take 5,000 or 10,000 in any action. Now to figure out how to stop camping the loot.

How about you come in, and you cannot participate until the next round. At that point your money is entered into the pool. Every say 2 In-game hours, the setup resets, and ports all participants back to their starting location.

Just a thought, even though we can't do it. Seems no reason for conflict without a purpose, something to fight over or for. The outposts will be this. I just can't wait.

P.S. Personally, I do not see much fighting over them(Outposts) between people that actually wish to hold a post unless there is some huge advantages to holding them. It will be more of vendetta sieges, and an attempt to beat an "opponent down" thus depleting their resources.

Noin.

I agree that fighting someone just because they are different is rather dull, but I'd rather a less soap opera approach and more of a solid cause. The lore does push the idea that the Matis seek power and control and if given the chance would take over all the other lands. Maybe something like the other races have allowed the Matis in their borders and let them take resources, but due to a new law the Matis have started to block any race from using their lands.

The guides are actually setting up the Gliadators event right now and that's a form of conflict. If they actually go all the way and make it a long standing league with Champion place holder and people trying to knock them down, that's a source of constant "healthy" conflict right there. It'll be the first Official Atysian Sport (well after Yubo-ball :P ). And if they extend that idea further and have "team" combats and competition, you can start having official team and mascot ...

Push the guides, tell them how great the idea of having leagues and team base combat would be.

The problem is that type of combat has no real meaning behind it.

Conflict can only have meaning through suspension of disbelief. That is, until players can actually affect Atys. The fact is, no matter what we do there will be no change. Therefore any risk involved is an illusion. And without risk there really can't be conflict. Unless the players take imaginary RP stuff seriously, it will always be on the level of team sports.

You have always been strongly against imagination and suspension of disbelief in RP dynamics Raynes, and I think that is why your old events never really took off. Planning a fight is only going to bring out PvPers who want to play "sports."

I believe "peaceful" RP is the root of "conflict" RP. Until the characters value something, there is nothing to take from them. No source of conflict. So things like weddings and festivals are really paving the way for meaningful conflict. It can't just spring out of nowhere. When we have a good context for it, I think the conflict will arrive naturally.

Yes, look where peaceful RP has gotten the game so far. Look around you in the game, it's dead. There is no excitement among the players. People don't have anything to care about. Instead of a game full of conflict and meaningful actions we have a game where a fake wedding with a GM reading a poem is a big deal.

I'm hardly against imagination. What I am against is a game full of conflict possibilites being turned into a game where picnics, marriages, and playful sports are the only things going on.

The sims type events just aren't cutting it to push this game forward.

If you truly wants this to work, I think you'll have to bring in the GMs and Guides into this. Get together with them, raynes. Help them create the conflict, have them judge the outcome of the conflict, and have them put the entire thing as part of the Ryzom lores.

I think a lot of time most of the casual players or players that are not too much into rp will ignore any events that is "just some other players making stuff up". But if you bring in the guides and gms and help them create conflicts, they can be at least be somewhat "official", and will draw bigger crowd.

Which reminds me, serveral months back, Nevrax announced that the guides and GMs have a new set of powerful tools to create more meaningful events. What ever happen to this? Or have they already been in use and I am just missing them?

A wedding isn't a "meaningful action," Raynes? Do you really have such little respect for, well, everyone other than yourself?
