Like it or not, it's true.

Where I disagree with Mr Shad is that we didn't warn them about these problems. Some of them, obviously, we couldn't (Patch One and a few other things came out of the blue) others we did, repeatedly and at length.

True? TRUE?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! PvP ruined ryzom? And you didnt WARN them enough?
I think youve done more then enough WARNING about pvp! and when it comes to ruining ryzom? That has nothing to do with pvp!
PvP is a CHOICE, its not FORCED on your ass!
You give people a choice, which attracts more people!
You think a NO PVP, JUST RP ryzom would be good?

Jyudas: Hey, im a fluffy little tryker, Chad, would you mind giving me a hug and passing me some resin so that i can craft you a GREAT armor, il also give you the recipy for it, so that you can in NO WAY believe that we are playing in a competitive atmoshphere.

MrChad: Of course my good friend Jyudas. I will pass you anything you desire. Because my role is to help you, and make sure that you get it your way always.

Jyudas: That is so very nice of you Mrchad. Thank you.

Raynes, LittleTiger, Jayce, Jackoba, Omisri comes in and takes a **** at the happy couple's campfire, stomps on the hugging couple, grabs the new armor and walks off.

Raynes shouts. Its called PvP !!! :P

I love how everyone thinks they know, exactly, what went wrong, and how it's tied to their vision not being followed.

I can give you one good reason SoR hasn't caught on, at least in North America. No one has even heard of it.

edit: grammar.

Ruined it?
Not quite yet.
Made it less good than it was and given a dose of CounterStrikeitus? Definately.
The old grey mare ain't what she used to be and it IS PvP's fault.

An interesting hypothesis, but like Intelligent Design, not borne out by the evidence.

It is effectively forced, or at least given a large amount of impetus by factors already more than adequetely described. Many pro PvPers don't seem to understand how it is considered forced but then, since they're not the ones feeling forced, they wouldn't.

Would a more RP oriented Ryzom be 'good'? Perhaps not perfect, but better, yes. As it stands it is, currently, still, IMO one of the most RP oriented games out there.

It's called being a selfish galloping asshat and I have no more respect or understanding for such behaviour than I do for undisciplined children who take joy in stamping over other kid's sandcastles.

RPGs are cooperative games played against a common enemy played out by a narrator or GM. This is something that is most often woefully lacking in the translation to MMORPGs.

Jesus, well in an attempt to sum up pretty much all I've ever said during my time discuessing this argument, in short:

I would be and have always been perfectly happy with senseable suggestions on other PVE content (of which I enjoy most same the rest) but *****, screaming and throwing toys outta the pram because people who like PvP got some content and then going on to try and change it because they resent the fact they didn't get all the attention for once is retarded.

As I said I like PvE as much as the next person and agree its in desperate need of some loving (which is seems to slowly be gaining with the Lairs, NPCs, Ring etc, thankfully) but I also like and enjoy the PvP and what gets me is this...

Nevrax are/were only small and can't be expected to keep everybody happy at once and this needs to be understood. Crying 'but what about me, me, meee!' when its not your turn is just being selfish and waste of time. Alot of people enjoy it and so unfortunately have to be just as loud as the whiners to make sure the correct message is put accross.

I have agree'd with Jyudas and co in the past on things (all be it rarely) and I'm man enough to say out loud when I do, but also when I don't, if I think its a stupid idea, I'll letcha know.

Most of what I've referred to was their own, earlier vision and the effects of the bad decisions are self evident, albeit with hindsight.

At the time, for example, while I had reservations I thought the US server merge was OK.

There's something I can agree with. Advertising has always been lacking.

I went away for a few hours and this thread gained 10 pages!

Unfortunately I cant reply to anyone who aimed anything at me, mrshad, point taken. Your post originally sounded like pvp was to blame for _everything_ which i strongly disagree with.

And lol red, we really didnt get on ;)

The difference is that the Non-PVP idiots are limited in the amount of dammage they can directly cause. Severly limited if they are added to an ignore list.

vguerin wrote: The mistake was releasing SoR without the PvP, the FBTers had barely tested it and knew release was gonna be screwed... Who'd have thought they'd have done things the way they did... It's not PvP's fault though, that was always intended as a big part of things.

Atys 1 used to be a sign of what was coming... the "saga" like the "1" died and our game has not recovered. Losing a vision is costly as many of us were relying on this vision.
You certainly have a point, DT. If the game had PVP from the get-go, it would be a totally different situation. We can speculate on if it would have helped Nevrax last longer or not; but I maintain that after the game was released in a non-PVP state, the wise thing to do would have been to leave it that way.
