well I am surprised to find the forum 'minority' starting to become the vocal majority preaching Nevrax refusing to follow 'their vision' is proof of Ryzom's failure.....When it was restricted to this thread I had no problem with it, but now I find the attitude presented here is spreading to other posts and the forum is degrading and becoming full of glib comments and pointless responses. Maybe it's PvP, maybe it's a natural response to drastic changes in an online game, I really have no idea what causes this phenomenom....but I do know the result,
Childlike reasoning, one upmanship, tribal grouping, open hostility and finally.....boredom, At which point the perpetrators move on to another beast to bring down .....and gloat over the carcass.

I agree with most of this list.

You go back to the whole "Neutrals got shafted" bit. And I suppose they did. And we have talked about that extensivly. I will just leave it at "I think you are wrong, for a bunch of different reasons"

For the most part, you have correctly identified where Nevrax went wrong.

But for the most part, we as players didn't really warn them much about it.

PVP is the outstanding exception. Many of us knew what would happen should it get implemented on a large scale, and we were vocal about it.

It might be that the original "vision" of the game incluided massive FvF PVP. But really, WHO CARES ABOUT THE "VISION"? We are the ones paying for the game, and we are the ones Nevrax should have been concerned with, not 2 year old design docs that had scribble in the margin "PVP wud B fun!!!"

The pulse of the community was taken. It came out, time and time again either against PvP or placing PvP very low on the priority list.

Just another turn in the road of where Nevrax went wrong? Yes.
But a turn they were well advised about.

Sure, some shortsighted naysayers might have complained; saying it would only make the game viscious and fill the servers with ignorant fools. But those people were wrong! Adding PVP has saved Nevrax, and made SoR a successful and mature game!

Shad, we have plenty of non-PvP players who show equal ignorance... they just don't have as much to talk about in the forums.

Hindsight, of course, is always 20/20; but many of us saw this comming. We knew PVP would be bad for the community, we tried to warn Nevrax. Nevrax though "WoW has PvP, and it is doing great, we should be like WoW!" Never thinking that the people who want a game like WoW are ALREADY THERE!

The mistake was releasing SoR without the PvP, the FBTers had barely tested it and knew release was gonna be screwed... Who'd have thought they'd have done things the way they did... It's not PvP's fault though, that was always intended as a big part of things.

Atys 1 used to be a sign of what was coming... the "saga" like the "1" died and our game has not recovered. Losing a vision is costly as many of us were relying on this vision.
