You can always just use User.
Hi Grimjim:

Appologies, I should have expressed my point in a clearer way. I like the one large chat window with many tabs. What I do not like is the pop up chat windows when sending private tells to other players.

I've had three people send me private tells while I was in a fight and I could barely see what was happening due to the way those windows spread themselves around. It's a good thing that most key shortcuts work so well. What I was trying to allude to is that I would like to have all messages appear in the one window.

Now after saying that I bet there is a way that I can configure the chat interface to give me that option. Hmm, I am new here but I'd better start spending more time exploring the interface options before I post in this forum.

Can anyone point me to a document that could help me get started with creating my own Macro's?

One more question, is it just me or does the space bar select the nearest enemy in front of you? It is like it uses a cone shaped area in front of your character to select a Mob. What if I want to select the mob that is stabbing me in the back? Do I really have to turn around first and then use the space bar to select that mob?

Today I promise that I will spend lots of time playing with the interface options and seeing if what I can customize. I really do think this is a great game with a slightly annoying interface. Maybe it really is just so different that it takes some getting used to. I hope that is all it is.

Thank you for the feedback and being nice about it (Blaah).
Cheers all.

tells are a problem, but if you move/size tell window, then it remembers it and next time same char send you tell, it pops to old place.

macros are nothing more than few commands tied together and binded to one hotkey and/or shortcut in your hands bar. you cant control chars movement with them, but everything else is a go.

just open macro window, press new macro, fill in name, key shotcut if you want, click on macro icon to change color, add some commands, save it. from macro list, drag icon to hands bar if you want.
One more question, is it just me or does the space bar select the nearest enemy in front of you?
it selects enemy in front of your camera (if mob is visible on screen on far left/right and it's only one in range, it will be selected). ctrl+space (for homins/friends) works same way.
to select enemy behind you, just turn camera and press space (then dbl click/keypress on action to turn around and to kick it). yes, "target closest enemy" or "target closest attacking enemy" commands are missing.

I'll say with a fair degree of confidence that this should be possible with no more than an hour or two of programmer time. Add a UI option that changes the behaviour of the compass.

Right now, up on the compass is the direction my character's nose is pointed. While digging in dangerous areas, I usually have my index finger on the left mouse button, scanning around with the camera. When your combat is 55 or so and there's orange two star Kinchers in the area, this is a necessity.

As I'm doing this, it'd be nice if the compass would track the way the camera is pointed.

While I'm at it, I tag team harvest with my wife (RL) a lot. One thing that would make life just a whole lot easier is to NOT "camera cull" the crunch sound a resource makes when you pull it to the surface. If I have my nose pointed 180 degrees away from hers (sensible for area coverage), and the resource she pulls is more than a few meters behind me, I get no audiable cue that it's on the suface till I spin a 180.

-- Edit --

This is also probably the best place to suggest a channel with the same scope as Universe (i.e. server-wide) but for general chat. At least on Arispotle. Just stick your nose in there and within an hour (maybe less), an offtopic conversation will break out. Usually very polite, but nonetheless not the channel's intended use, that being new player help.

Another thing: Guild Halls look like they were meant to have LOTS more options. Shelves, rooms, door that don't work... when will these get the added functionality/customizability that they seem to have been designed for?

Some macro tips - link to Ryzom Wiki in Zyrom's reply
Tells taking focus is a problem, and I hope this does get some attention soon after Ring.

Gah...

Please make neutrals a viable faction at higher levels. Or possibly make a third coded "faction" that works with either (mercenary/pacifist/whatever) that pays much more for the same services, but has access to some of the higher level TPs.

*tired of missing bosses/mats because another group just teleported in, while his was still running to PR/a 250 area*

I dont wanna be railroaded into joining a faction "just for the TPs".

I know its probably not a "small fix" but really, something needs to be done for those of us that _dont_ want to play religious followers (which is what those with 30+ fame in a faction can be considered).

OR could we be _told_ there will be no planned support for the neutral/alternative crowd, so we may as well step in line now rather than waiting for something that isnt planned?

EDIT: on a seperate note, could we have Time Zone limited OPs? EG some that can onlyhave battles during Euro peak times, and others only during US peak times? (Free for all at weekends maybe). This would make OPs much less of a chore!

I'm sure all of these have been mentioned before, but I'll bring them up again anyway.

- global channel for general chatting.
- ability to scroll through your typed message to proofread/edit before you send it.
- create your own emotes? i haven't fiddled with it for fear of looking a fool, but i haven't seen anyone else doing it. perhaps a simple /emote <action>.
- ability to sort friends list and also map landmarks, manually or otherwise. i hate having to check 5 different landmarks to find the closest source of (blank).

Spam on Uni

1/ Please rename it the "Help" channel and rigorously enforce it

2/ Clearly theres also a demand for a Uni-chat channel , so that gets my vote too (huh wouldnt go there myself but I dont like to exclude options for others and no doubt it would go some way towards keeping "Help" clear)

3/ Also theres a need to help promote player made (CSR sanctioned/semi-official) events , so yet another tab would be usefull too , just to give start times/instructions , periodic updates on progress and end results (should be Read Only and updated by the Event organizer -monitored by CSR ofcourse)

I agree 100% on this, it takes the bad out and leaves the good... also not forced to see it. It could also be as easy as having a "town cryer" in each main city that you go up to and interact with. You select "listen to latest events" and he tells you the MOTD (official stuff, not stuck with one as is current) as well as verified news submitted properly to them for the day.

I understand this takes a CSR's time away, but so does it when someone losing his mind/memory (yours truly) has to /tell "gm" Sorry to bug you, but is the "event" still in an hour ?"

They have always been gracious and responded when they are about, but multiply that by all of us with CRS and that adds up too. Nobody can complain about spam/lag, you have to choose to see the "town cryer"

shift+arrow moves through text you've typed, shift+alt+arrow moves through and highlights text you've typed

Right click on the bit that says "Friends" -> Sort. Unfortunately it seems to unsort itself when someone on the list logs in/out (not sure exactly) but its better than nothing :p
