It might mean just the opposite. The tendils act as impassible walls. Thier changing position is what enable or prevents access to certian areas. They would be no more traversible than a tall baracade would be.

Rock climbing comes to mind. I have seen people, with the right shoes and gloves climb a surface that I swore was impassible. Granted she was former military and I am not, she had training and proper gear (250 dollar pair of spike shoes, a pick and several other goodies). BUT once she got going, she climbed a flat cliff like a gecko (the cute lizard).
Plus last I knew, wood can be shaped, tree=wood, SO...why can't a crafter use their weapons crafting skills to shape out a ramp up onto one, and a mage create a spell to breath in the rarified air. Travel troubles solved and you would STILL have to be higher than a certain level to use the spell...so...travel would still be limited to a certain degree.
*rubs chin* Or...since I am a Fyros...why not use fire to shape or remove sellected parts of it (IE burn a tunnel through it).

lyrah, one fact and one oversight:
-the game is fantasy/scifi, anything imaginable can and will happen even if there is no sane explanation for it
-you missed the sap, which undoubtedly has magical powers, that means it could also be possible that it could be used to create matter
with those above things i'll now create one possible, if not necessary true theory:
let's assume the karavan as well as the kami have means of traversing space.
let's assume the kami wanted to create a world and gathered a huge amount of sap in an orbit around the sun we see all day long.
let's assume they planted a seedling in it, which then grew and adapted and used the sap and became what atys is now.
my point is, you can throw real life comparisons at me all day, when it comes to the history of atys there are only two truths: atys is in it's whole, one enormous tree; we have no idea how it came to be
also, i stand by my opinion, an explorer without patience is not an explorer, but a tourist

None of that changes the fact that leaves fall and MAKE dirt. You said there was no dirt, in that you are mistaken.

Also I can varify that Darkmoor has a few rather high tendrils that hit the surface and can be climbed. I found the cave, and yes, it screams quest/raid/something special goes...but is not yet...here. SO...it would seem that one place an expansion will connect is in Darkmoor. It would be interesting to find other places they could connect to.

PLAYER EVENT QUESTs
Just need to think about the whole logistics of it. Then present the ideas to a GM online so that they can make annoucements ingame. Also post it in the EVENT BOARD

Yes I am also intrigued by Darkmoor, it is so different from the rest of the Lakelands.
But back to the original topic. I think it often easier to travel solo than with a group, unless the group is just overwhelming in power, like some of the big caravans in the past were. For example, I regularly harvest in Lagoons of Loria. I recall one time I was heading to my harvesting spot in Loria from Avendale. There was a group of 30 or so trying to get through Loria. I ran in to the lake 3 times without problem while this group wiped twice. Now maybe that's partly due to experience or knowing a good route or maybe luck, I don't know.
So I don't think travel is too hard. If it was, you probably would not keep seeing us Trykers around Prys.
(ps. I would have helped that Loria group, but my highest fight skill is 56, so I can't even hit anything in Loria )
