I think that the Ryzom Team has been pretty good at not making promises that they couldn't fulfill so far. Give them the time to evaluate what they are realistically going to be able to do with the current incoming flow of player. I like the fact that up to now, they have done what they said they'd be doing in a very reasonable time frame. (Just check the dates on Step 1, 2, 3 and 4 opening posts if you are not convinced.)
I've seen much worse in other companies that lied to their customers by promising some features for launch that STILL aren't in months after release.

Then it must have been a lot of corrupted files, had to download like 200 MB in some 14 files.

probs just the silly patcher checking for patches and failed to report you had any, and hence downloaded all patches

I had something similar last night as I was swapping Ryzom over to my new Vista box. Copied the files, ran the game and logged in. It did the file check then said it was restarting - restarted and it crashed. Ran it again and it was fine. I assumed it was a Vista issue, but then I ran the game on my XP machine and it did the same thing. Both ran fine after the 'ghost' patch and crash, didn't appear to download any files.

Indeed
Have they actually made a promise yet? Thought everything just happened without any large announcements / promises to start with.

This patching thing has been happening for YEARS. Often it'll repatch the entire "unpack" folder, but the cause of it, i have no clue. it's never happend to my machine but i've talked to TONS of people that have had the problem. It's possible that even one small file will cause the repatch. Like i said, this has been going on for as long as i've been ingame, and thats a long time o.O (it's relatively rare, but usually happens most (and in clumps) at times immediately after patches or when downloading/installing new files/client)

found that if I stop the big patch from happening, and restart the game then it will only patch about 20mb
