petersk wrote:Good posts and good points... For me Ryzom was my first MMO, and it spoiled me to no end with the open play, great community, crafting, digging, many tiered skill trees, etc. I rather like my guild in WoW (mostly Ryzomers), but as a few have said, someone from your guild needs to have an alt in your general level range in order for you to go quest grinding with a guildie. If not, you have to roll the dice and hope 1) you can join a team that is doing the same stuff and 2) NOT get a team of 12 year olds to quest with. And yes Sherk, the in-game sales pitches are very annoying to say the least  .

With Ryzom, the most enjoyable part was the journey...from Silan and running from gingos once you reached the mainland, to solo trekking in PR or Grove of Confusion, or some other equally dangerous place. For me the journey to a master WAS the "end game", not the master itself. That was just the icing :D . With WoW and a couple others I tried, the constant grind for levels really gets old after a while. And yes, I know joining a plod team is considered by some to be grinding, but at least you had Dai Den and others who wandered around to make it different each time, never knowing if you would get wiped by a surprise attack. Plus, the teams were fun, you never knew when Vrixy or Xyrana would strip down to their underwear and have a romp.

*sighs* How many different ways can you describe how Ryzom was/is the best game going?

heheheheh Zyra!!!!!!!!! that was one of the best parts of doing Plods :)

Mmmm, I've whored myself out to many MMOs: Final Fantasy 11, WOW, Tabula Rasa, Maple Story, Vanguard, Everquest... the list goes on and on. And I still prefer Ryzom above all else. If I needed a break from stresses of RL (And do I have many), I'd log onto Ptolmea and take a breather. Me and Zenon (who was my actual roomate at the time) would crack open a case of beer live an alternate reality.

I missed traveling through the most uncharted terrain of Atys with friends I've made. Racking millions in DP just to look at some ancient Kami totems or strangely placed waterfall. (Or the Kami Oasis I missed out on *cries*)
I miss trying my hand at digging and having node after node explode in my face, then begging for a Rez WHICH I WOULD ALMOST ALWAYS GET (Something I am unused to in any other MMO). Going to Pyr hottubs and RPing at will. Swimming through Lakelands harassing Trykerettes. AFKing in the strangest areas, just to find you were assaulted by emotes. So much I took for granted. And now that it's no longer there.... its a shame.

It wasn't the just the expansive leveling system, nor the deep storyline of Ryzom that drew me in. NO... it was the living environment of it all. Including its playerbase. You all were as much an experience for me as the game itself. 'Zom gave me a near intimate connection to it, something that no other MMO can hope to compare to. And patiently I wait for Ryzom to return... though I will unfortuneatly be stationed in Iraq by then. Even if there is a server wipe, even if I lose my character, I'd gladly rebuild my toon from the ground up, just to get that feeling back from an MMO.

They should port Ryzom to Wii. Just think in what great shape all of us compulsive grinders and pvpers would be! :D
