Think of it more as an interim regime.
The government has fallen, and it's going to take a few months to set up a new one. In the meantime though, the whole system of law and enforcement is kept in mostly the way it was under the old government, until such a time that the new one is ready to take over. Simply because that's preferable over allowing the nation to fall into anarchy for all those months.
Yes, ofcourse there's a risk of power abuse by CSRs. But I'm not particularly afraid that this risk has increased since GF is gone. The CSRs no longer have GF watching over their shoulder, but they're still a whole team of people who if necessary can police eachother if one of them steps out of line. Companies are just run by humans too, having one in charge is no safeguard against power abuse. Far from it.
I'm glad the CSRs are still around. The risk of power abuse by them is far outweighed by the risk of uni chat being flooded with spammers on trial acounts, methinks.

This is a great response man, thanks! I as well, DO NOT think the CSR's are abusing their power. Do I KNOW it's not happening? Of course not. Would I even care if they were? Not really...after all they have been through.
All I was doing was simply asking an interesting question: how does power work in Ryzom? None of us know for sure what is happening...to me that is a fascinating, and yes beautiful thing. None of real lives are at stake here..so we can safely look into the dramatics and workings of our lil Homin's virtual souls!
You all remember THIS right:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment
I am not saying that the CSR's will quickly play the role of evil.. and us the good, but the state the game is in right now is the most REAL I've ever felt in an MMO. If we WERE on a desert island...what would happen? Who would take charge? Who would crack first?
But again I acknowledge that I know NOTHING. I am simply asking certain questions, that to me, (while some see danger in those questions) are not only fascinating, but FUN to ask.
Let's not take this so seriously here. What IF the CSR's said "there ain't no one to stop us! we are forming a killing posse and we will march the landscape killing everyone! Try to stop us!"....I know for a FACT that I'd be the first one to log in and try to stop them! And with a smile on my face too!

Dont give them ideas Beau
And I dont think we'll have to worry really. Our community is still, partly, here. And it is as great as ever, prob even better then it ever has been the last year. So if the "Evil CSRs" would stand up, I think the community would quickly intervene (where possible)

Oh man but could you imagine? OR if they animated the great Dragon! And he had like a billion hit points and we all had to team together to hit em...grand combat for days!
Man this no coffee diet doesn't seem to have any effect.

Considering it's you, I'm quite unsurprised.

Well if the CSRs ever do use their powers, I want another MOB free day but do not want to know for how many minutes/hours it would last. The last time it happened I had the best time ever in Ryzom (actualy, my best time was when all MOBs came back and I was caught right in the middle of it on ground zero).

That's not power abuse, that's an event.
Power abuse is if a CSR randomly mutes or bans players, because he's cranky that he got stuck in traffic that morning.
Anyways, power usually works pretty simple in online environments. Forums, MMOs, it's all private property. The owner(s) have complete power over their property and over everyone's participation in it. The participants have just one single power: To leave whenever they want.
This usually works out pretty well, because the owners generally want people to stay.

I can see it now:
one CSR walks on Atys
looks around to see if anyone is around
he thinks "good no one"
thinks "now how do I do this again ...."
scratches his head
scratches his head
scratches his head
says "ah what the heck I can't remember"
waves his hand in a random pattern and looks at his hand with big eyes in anticipation
a small sparkle emits from his hand, falling down on the ground without making noise and goes "Pffffffff"
yells "Is that it ??"
then all of a sudden, hears a strange noise coming from the ground
noise is increasing in intensity
ground starts shaking and increases
soon everything surrounding him shakes
big cracks starts opening here and there all around him traping a few MOBs caught while trying to escape
smokes and gaz escapes the cracks
bits of lava are thrown outside the cracks
then everything starts calming down
he then proudly says "Cool, earthquakes !!!!" while knobing his hand and looking all around hoping someone sees him
he then says "Now how do I do this again ?"

It truly fascinates me to think that people are so blind as to think just because they are CSR and have certain abilities that they would or do use them for their own benefit, Let me clue you in a little here....CSR are unable to affect their own player characters with any abilities that they can perform...Not all CSR ranks have the same priveledges and for the most part Junior ranks do not have the ability to detrementily or positively affect anyones gameplay.
It could always be possible however that these CSR simply remain to ensure that the players are haveing the best game that they can with little or no disruption.
Equally it is possible that they remain because put quite simply "THEY GIVE A DAMN".
Thanks for listening.
