It is not "officially" back, but you can enable it, and a few players like it. It's a bit "at the edge" tho.
i saw it in the video :)
Lots of games have the game data and resources (e.g. textures, animations, etc.) stored and structured in a "virtual" filesystem, with directories and files. These "filesystems" are usually shipped in compressed or simply "concatenated" physical files. It is quite common for a lot of games to implement a simple heuristic in which, for a given resource named such as res:///foo/bar/ding the actual directory is inspected before the file containing that virtual filesystem.

Edit: Not using them myself but I can understand someone preferring them and enabling them. I don't think this should be banned. If this is banned, anyone adjusting camera settings should be as well. Disable checking for files outside the container? prolly yes, but I surely hope no scarce resource as dev time is *wasted* on this.

ive had that animation in place for so long i forgot it was different from the norm untill someone reminded me of that fact via tell IG.

They way to get the animation was given to me by someone who has since passed away IRL.

It is client side only and offers no benefit whatsoever besides visual effect.

The way in which it is obtained breaks no part of any terms provided by gameforge.

Go cry BAN HIM! else where please, i took the time to record, edit, upload and host something which we enjoyed so others might enjoy it too.

Maybe i just wont bother next time : /

Hey XtarsiA,

Your video rocks!!! Thanks very much for taking the time to record and make available for us all to enjoy *hugs*

As for those two "Old'Timers"; maybe its time you guys should go have a break or something..... I havent seen such a pety comment in such a long time.

I am sure you two know what a UI is right?
Well go play EQ2 for a while; the UI is not only 100% customisable; but Sony provide tools to do so (though not that good hehe),

Last time i checked; when i added the Orc themed UI, my master orc stike didnt become 200000% more powerful.... actually it didnt change at all...

Back to Ryzom, you might want to check your facts.
1. the ONLY people to see the Phoenix affect, are those with this loaded
2. it makes ZERO difference to the mechanics of the game (doesnt hit higher, resist less, etc etc)
3. you probably fight along side with people using it anyway....

So take a chill-pill and stick your dummy back in :P

As for the Video - its GREAT!

Thanks again!

Well, I consider myself an old timer, and I guess your comment wasn't targeted at me but at blaah and Ciri. Although I am not against this "particular" workaround, I do share some of their concerns and they expressed their opinions. It was not a "pety" comment and answering "have a break" is... maybe not appropriate? I really really wished, people were more moderate with their posts.
I am sure you two know what a UI is right?
I do know. and this workaround it's not exactly an UI "tweak". You may discuss this as much as you want, but it does not change a few facts:

* if the animations are no longer distributed, or not official, or not enabled it is a bit "fishy" to redistribute them without the approval of the owner. A lot of programs have restrictions regarding distribution (e.g. you need to redistribute the installer, no individual files).

* there are reasons for this. One day, changes in the engine may cause old animations that have not been "updated" to cause subtle bugs. And providing support can become a nightmare. Of course, someone may see that if they enable the phoenix, they crash. Someone may not realize the slow memory leaks are due to subtle animation errors...

* this hack is innocent. Maybe next "removes walls in wire frame mode".

* the company operating the service is entitled to have a "unified policy" against this kind of mods.

I am not against this, do as you may please, as long as *my* game is not affected, but there are reasons to be against.

Yours,
Ani

These files were clearly part of a previous release. He isn't distributing them to anyone. This is a moot point.

And these bugs will affect his client, and his client only. He obviously knows his way round the game, so I doubt he would be turning to GF for support anyways.
iphdrunk wrote:

Replacing an animation with an alternate animation is hardly a hack. And, comparing that to a 'wall-hack' is downright dirty. Impute wrong motives much?
iphdrunk wrote: * the company operating the service is entitled to have a "unified policy" against this kind of mods.
And they are entitled to the following:
a. Not support him.

Oh, thats it. When the files are placed on his hard drive, they become his property. Plain and simple. No EULA can sign away rights of a consumer.

So, lets drop this stupidity and enjoy the game please.

Got the latest version of winrar? I managed to get the video without any hitches.

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

failing that someone might be able to host it un-rar'd
