I'm also one of those "old timers" and I also one of those who hates cats. Sure I've used them, daft not to when they are available, but what they breed is lazy players and no offence intended but it tends to be newer, younger players.

Once a player can get a regular supply you often find they wont even attempt to level without them. They could still get 3k a kill or 2k forage xp but noooo, I've got no cats!! I cant play !!! Thats why I hate them and think they are bad for the game. Too often they are the be all and end all of playing. I've lost count of the times I've seen players login and their first sentence in guild chat isnt "Hiya Guild" it's "Can I get some cats!"

Take them out for me or make them even rarer, limit the max quality maybe (which has been suggested before) so they do actually give new players a boost and older players a better reason to level ranged :p

At the original poster:
Ryzom is NOT a game based on PvP.
When you have two sides struggling in any game
There is a storyline, to the side of the main storyline that talks about the Karavan and the Kami hatred of one another. This other storyline has allowed for there to be a little PvP action in the game. Factional tags were implimented for the factional wars, and outposts were implimented, which eventually because factional objects.
The main storyline though, is not based upon the Kami and the Karavan. The main storyline is about Homins trying to reorganize themselves after the orginal Kitin Invasion.
Now, due to the fact that the main storyline of Ryzom is not based on PvP, powerleveling with cats so one can be of use is not necessary, nor is it a good thing. By using and craving cats (yes, they are addictive), on levels far to fast. In leveling so fast, one misses out on the first grind. The first grind of any branch is very critical to a players experience in game.
It has been to my displeasure to run across what I like to call "high level noobs." Due to cats, new players to the game, Ryzom, are able to level fast. In leveling fast, they do not learn the correct ways to pull a mob, to taunt multiple mobs. They do not learn that healing is an art that cannot be rushed. A "high level noob" also does not learn that when you are nuking, and your healer is low on HP/Sap, that tossing that healer some life force will, in effect save the entire team for a nice little wipe.
So, what I am trying to tell you, orginal poster, and upcoming new players, cats are bad. They are an addictive drug that takes away from the experience of Ryzom and creates "high level noobs" whom I kick from my teams for being such complete idiots.
I hope you have learned something from this, because it took me long enough to type.

Don't worry so much about Cats. The best part of the game is the journey to 250. When you get there, you'll only start leveling something else, then something else , over and over again.
Cats really devalued the whole being 250 thing. You can get 250 so easily these days. It used to mean alot. But it's lame when your there and you don't have that particular goal anymore.

So cats aren't everything..I had 5 before they were even implemented.

Just focus on having fun an all that Jaz. Don't think about other players leveling ahead of you.

Don't want to level to max to be "leet", because a hundred noobs have already done that, and their still noobs. I would bet my bottom dollar, that any old player using a 200 skill would school any new player at 250. This is perhaps the only game around, where a players wisdom and intellect contribute more to the strength of their character, then any levels that they will gain.

Oh..thanks for reminding me. Botting...botting is "why i'm starting to really hate this game." Far worse than cats ever will be. 250 in a skill by letting your computer do all the work...not the best way to savor "the journey to 250".

Who are you to accuse anyone of botting. youve been here axactly 3 .56 days or less. In my case there are alot of people that know me and know my play style. Im known for the hard grinding.

It says alot about your character to come out with crap like that. The amount of effort people put into achieving levels, and some random who knows dick about anything, runs their mouth.

Because you hear a rumour, it must be true, right?

Turn your pms on now you ignorant little S**t

Wow...sorry if you read a different post than i wrote buddy. I didn't write syllable 1 about you...just that botting also ruins the "lvl 250 experience"....but if you're the representative of the Ryzom-Bot community..and i missed it...then i guess it was about you...in which case i could care less.

You really are something.

Why would you quote me in the same sentence you make your statement about botting. If you weren't trying to imply that I botted.

Botting is the one thing you really got to watch your tongue over, in an mmo. You dont know me, have never seen or spoken to me before.

Well if you read my post in a way that i didn't intend it...then i'm sorry, that wasnt my intention. But botting is completely retarded..and those that do it should get banned, that does ruin the "lvl 250 experience"...if you seem to disagree..then feel free to state why here.

In other news...thanks for the 4 ranting PM's...shows your maturity...as well as your arrogance...welcome to my block list.

lol Ive met people like you before. A couple on here. Even though you make a serious allegation against me, which has no strength to it at all. You wonder why I would get pissed off? You make one of those "I'm sorry, but im not really" ass hole comments.

Your intention was obvious, and so is your arrogance. Welcome to my stfu , see you at lan list. /kick

There are so many wonderful things about this game. But this cat problem leaves me bitter and infuriated.

Hi Harci,

Only posting to say you are not alone in your feelings. But many of us have recieved reactions as you have seen from people benefitting from the situation. As such I have taken something of a personal choice to cut down my troll feeding. So I wont go into anecdotal evidence of cat-ratios, numbers of "level 250 newbies" etc, as frankly some of the people reading this thread dont care and would just enjoy another post to attack.

The best advice I can offer to you is this: forget the PvP, enjoy other aspects of the game. Its frustrating to level slower if you have limited playtime like most of us (I wont say 1/2 the speed, as not everyone uses cats all the time, but it _is_ slower, and there _are_ people who only level on cats, and people who never level on cats, and the numbers of either type are in the ratios you expect them to be) but the game is still fun when you just dont care about the OPs...
