Raiding is usually "boss" raiding, where the group goes out hunting for particular high level boss mobs. This is still just fighting in the traditional sense, just harder Usually a guild team that does this.leetah wrote:Hi,
Some good information here for someone who just started playing the game trying to get a feel for stuff.
One thing Olepi left off the list for most mmorpgs.. Raiding.
I don't see it mentioned anywhere, but it does seem to play an important part of most MMORPGs. It's usually guilds getting all their members together to kill some very power mob. I haven't heard it mentioned at all. Honestly, I have no interest in raiding as it is in most current mmorpgs, but I am curious about the kitin (sp?) swarm attacks. Is this something guilds participate in, or is this everyone who is on the server when the attack takes place?
Kitin swarm attacks are special events that are put on by the GM's. It is usually everyone that wants to participate.
In Ryzom, you can "tag" yourself to be available for fighting other people. In DAOC, you are automatically "tagged" whenever you venture into a PvP type zone. I think DAOC has the best PvP setup. Also something I would like to know more about is FvF. Is this like RvR? I never played DAoC, but I heard they were a lot of fun.
Yes, there are lots of improvements to prospecting, like looking for specific type mats (oil, for example), and specific qualities (like choice oil).My first impressions in the 2 days I have played...
Great crafting setup! I am still a bit confused on the harvesting part though... I see how it is involved and requires your attention and you have ways to counter a bad hit to one of the pools, but I have no clue how to find the mat I need. I am hoping there will be better ways to find them then the 50m fine quality.
It is very similar to other MMORPG's in team play, except you first need to organize who does what. Since everyone can do everything, people need to pick their role in each fight. It is very common to first go for a melee and heal improvements, and let the offensive magic follow later. Even a lvl 50 healer can help out on a team with 150's.Fighting has been a challenge so far. I am getting used to what I can and can't do. I haven't decided what area I want to focus in yet. I hear that you can do everything, but what really happens when your out fighting in a group?
They will probably have similar skills. Mobs are resistant to certain skills, so Cold damage is used for one type, Rot damage for another, Elec for another, etc. To be effective you would need decent levels in all of these things. There are also DoT (damage over time) spells for each type. And, for each spell, you can set the stanzas up differently; for example, I never use time credits, since I want my spells to cast as fast as possible. I therefore use more sap and life credits. I also don't like range credits. So I probably have basically the same skills as another offensive mage, but I cast faster and farther, at greater cost to sap and life.I imagine that people do not do everything even if the trees are open to them. For example, you have people that focus on healing and others who might focus on melee fighting and taunting? If you have two offensive mages, will they have the same skills or will they have a different customized set of skills?
Yes, the Ring is instanced areas created with a constructor set. It has the standard triggers, sequences, etc. Currently, you MUST be in the instance yourself for anyone else to enter. Eventually these instanced scenarios will be independent of any player. As for the ring expansion.. That almost sounds like an instanced type of event that players can create with a builders pack kind of like Oblivion's construction set. Is this true? When you enter a ring, is it just your group or is it anyone who is on at the time? Do you have to do it at a set time or can you enter it anytime?
