I seem to recall someone stating that suggestions made on the forum have just as much weight as those ticketed, by the way. The forums are very much more awash with all sorts of other opinions, however :)

I voted No, eventually, mainly because I'd like the Spires to have more development of the type that Noin suggested - very nice suggestions :) I too would like to see spire erection require all of the core skills used in Ryzom, not dependent solely upon faction combat. Perhaps we could choose the type of spire to build, for example, and craft structures appropriately, rather than have their attributes dependent upon the region as it seems to be at the moment. Make Kara and Kami spire attributes unique and appropriate to their lore - but such considerations would involve very serious balance testing :/

I voted yes since I can see potential in the spires as described in the design document. It clearly states only tagged players are affected by the spire boni/mali, so no changes for the non-PvPers, or people who just don't want to fly their flag at any moment. Yes, the teleport options would be restricted, yet as I recall it, the original idea was that teleports had to be won, so it's (doubtlessly) an inconvenience, but only because the spires/faction thingy has not been there right from the start, so we got used to lazy teleporting.

I'd describe myself as a non PvP oriented mild roleplayer having fun with an occasional duel or OP battle. I wouldn't mind (well not really) having teleport access restricted or taken away from me, since all areas can be accessed by just walking there, and as has been said, trekking would become that much more important, possibly creating new friendships and strengthening old bonds. I can see potential problems if one is an absolute solo player, but then there's one "M" for "multiplayer" in MMORPG, and there's also some feeling of accomplishment in a deed done solo; yes, I am soloing much of my time on Atys, but am not adverse to grouping, much on the contrary.

I had been hoping for Nevrax to add a faction system based on civilisation as opposed to the rather one-dimensional "we vs. them" religious themed conflict, but it seems this will not be implemented (yet at least).
What would be very welcome (but probably also very difficult to implement properly) would be some kind of a political system as an alternative to faction (spires) and OP battles.

With what little information is available to me right now, I say "bring 'em on", it doesn't sound too bad after all.

Spires may well have been the correct "stated" development direction - 12 MONTHS ago.

I am pretty sure that there will be much bigger "bang for buck" work that the dev/event teams should be turned loose on !!!

Erm, heheh, I think you misunderstood me. I meant that the forum based oppinion poll is the most reliable way open to players to get a consensus on player oppinions. Refuting an ealier point that they are unrepresentative.

But thanks for replying about tickets :)

My point was not that the forums aren't representative of players... I just can't make a statement that it is representative of the general concensus of the players. There is absolutely no way for a player to make that claim and have data to back it up. It is... with all due respect... purely speculative.

For example... I am the only person in my Guild at this time who actively posts on the forums here. They are two busy gaming, exploring, and don't have the same level of access to the internet that I do from work. Not to mention that most of them have been ruined for gaming forums by the flame wars that so frequently infest them.

I get one vote... and when I vote on a poll, I think of how my Guild would feel about the feature in question. But I only have 1 vote. That's hardly representative of my little tribe.

And I would never make the claim that posting on a game's forums validates one's worth in a gaming community. I've met too many wonderful and helptful people in Ryzom who I have never seen make a post here to dare accuse them of not being part of the community or "doing their part".

Besides... a poll posted by a player can be presented with a spin based on a player's agenda. I would take a poll posted by a dev much more seriously, but would still believe it to be a poll of a small percentage of the player base, and hardly a large enough group to get a representative estimate of the general population's opinion.

A few words about the Spires.

We originally planned to add them in the same time as the fame changes, but this wasn't made possible as we couldn't test them deeply enough within the time. Then we had other features in the pipe (RoS, R², Kitin's Lair) that couldn't be delayed, so the Spires testing got stalled.

After reading your feedbacks and also rethinking our priorities over the last months, we decided to not rush the Spires out. There are a few points we want to rethink about them. However for now, we have other work ongoing to be released after the Ring, including new Ring features that you've been asking for (such as foraging, PvP, etc.) and the Kitin's Lair.

Thanks for the info.

I personally love it when you pop in and give us a bit official clarification on something that we're discussing. Wouldn't hurt to happen more often. *hint hint nudge nudge*

Thankyou for listening to what the players want, and acting accordingly.
