I've been playing with plants recently, the ones in HoP parry not dodge and with no accurate attack i cant hit them for toffee, but adding a few levels accurate and my hit ratio jumps to 80-90%
yea theres no denying that, but try hitting a lvl 200 plant at lvl 200 you should hit similar amount using no accuracy compared to with the highest accuracy you can buy at lvl 200

I too reckon that the accurate attack applies whether the mob is using dodge or parry.

However, the plants are bugged, as the attack after parry/dodge credit can't be used against them, despite sys info saying that I've parried them. I know that this is because they use all magic attack, but I don't think that working out of melee actions can be trusted again them ;)

As an aside, can anyone translate the French or German descriptions, to see if they agree with the English ones.

It's not that plants are bugged, its that ranged is bugged. They're not using melee attack, its a ranged attack like a rifle shot. And after parry/dodge/critical attacks don't recognize ranged attacks

Ah, and yes, it's the description itself. Whe you use accurate atack it makes your attack effectively 30 lvls higher. Dodge/parry doesn't matter, the game just checks your attack (lvl in weapon + accurate bonus) against your opponents defense (dodge/parry value at that instant)

So it would seem that if my melee and magic are both at 250,
I have a 250 base parry and dodge... (but the 250 parry is only when weilding my 250 melee skill weapon)...

So, its adventageous to have a high lvl magic, because regardless of the weapon you have in had, you will have a dodge that matches your highest magic.

For example, i've been working spear, lvl 115 atm... i wear MA, with no dodge penalty, and my weapon has no effect on my dodge, so I can have a 250 dodge while fighting, or a 115 parry (or so)... There is no reason that I would go with the lower parry.

Unless, parry has a greater chance of protecting me that dodge does, making up for the difference in numbers.

... i don't know why i had the urge to post, but there you have it.

You don't need the high lvl magic. You would have 250 dodge from just the master melee. Base dodge = highest combat lvl (or half of harvest if that happens to be higher)

And there is no advantage at all to using the lower parry value when you can be dodging at 250. Basically, gear for combat, look at the identity screen, and set yourself to the higher number.

Thats cool if so. I never knew.

*mutters something about 'know it all Sehraci'*

:p my own two cents.. starting off the game i had _much_ higher healing than my melee, so my parry was always much lower than my dodge (its just now overtaken it, in fact) and i've learned that i was much more efficient using medium armor that had no malus to dodge, or preferably heavy with no dodge malus (but at lower lvls that was a bit harder to run into :p ) however as the two lvls began to even out with my handy dandy supreme armor and weapon - i switched to parry. i saw no difference between how well i parried and how well i dodged - except that parry armor was always going to give me a nice boost to HP, and i now prefer that over my dodge :)

so .. point made short -ranged attacks/resistances/plants aside- i've not seen any kind of difference between the two.

No advantage and no difference between Dodge and Parry.
It all depend what you do at the time and what equipment you are using.

For 250 Melee and Magic (potentially 250 dodge/parry).
-If you train in another skill that your main melee skill or if u mage, your parry will be lower so it is better to dodge.
-If you use your main melee skill, both should be 250 and will be affected by stats of armurs and weapons, so Check P and take the highest one..

This obviously is applicable to all levels.
