was from a
crash, still counts right?
and a bit confused that my /3gb switch in boot.ini hasnt given Ryzom 3gb to play with...

Honestly, if you want performance, go Kami, they have the magic.
And if you want eco-friendly? Go Kami, they're really no better than the Karavan but at least you can see their lips move when they lie.

Id go with Ram, I wish I could get some, I run on 512mb x.x (on a 64mb Vid card, 1.6 ghz CPU) I lag alot most of the time(ofcourse it never helps that I usually have a few background prgrames going like windows media player
) >.> but I hardly ever crash (only right outside Yrk for some reason and once every 3-4 months at Pyr
) But my HD is dying
so I need to get a new comp one of these days
*ahem* anyway, Id say - Ram for better load time/less lag ...

I run 1600x1200 on an old P4 2.4Ghz, 2gb ram, 6800xt graphics card, all graphics settings maxed, no problems except at very large OP battles, so I doubt your processor is the problem. I also have a second machine with an ATI 9600, same processor, 1gb ram, at 1280x1024. That runs more slowly, lots of noticeable pauses. I'm pretty sure that it's due to insufficient RAM, the graphics card used to be in the other machine and ran fine at 1280x1024, I only upgraded it so I could run on a new display.

I personally would not recommend buying "cheap" ram. I've been building pc's for 10 years now and cheap ram has proved to be the biggest cause of crashes and incompatibility. I've had a lot of cheap ram eventually go faulty too. Cheap = slow with all things pc related, ram is no exception.
I currently have 2 Gig of OCZ ram (£160), along with an Athlon 64 4000+ and a 7600GTX Extreme and this game runs absolutely perfectly with all settings at full (including AA and AF). I never get any lag and I haven't had a single crash. My son has a Radeon X800 and a 3.2Ghz P4 and his runs great too (again, 2 gig of decent ram) proving that the graphics card and processor, while important, do not have to be "uber" to get good performance in this game at the best graphics settings. (incidentally, we're both running at 1280x1024, if you're using a higher rez than that then the graphics card will be more of an issue)
Ram is definitely the single most important thing where mmo's are concerned no doubt about it. If you want smooth gameplay you need 2 gig. If you can stretch to 4 gig you can turn your windows swap file off which is even better. But don't buy cheap rubbish.
I second this. When I started Ryzom crashed frequently; I blamed it on Ryzom since I had never had an issue with other games, including WoW, but memtest discovered an infrequent problem (20 minutes into testing), and after replacing the RAM Ryzom became steady as a rock, haven't had a client crash since.

lol ryzom will run on anything just depends on how long u will wait for it to load.
I had it run on a 2100+ amd, 512 ram and a Mx420 64Mb graphics card and got it steady for around 6 months, (then the crashes began but lets leave that out of it lol) and ryzom regularly uses 700-850 Mb of ram for me

About the mem, just a note: in recents PCs some memory problems are related to the voltege of the ram. Only in high-end PCs, of course.
I have my DDR2 800 Memory runnig at default BIOS settings, and it goes faulty (Ryzom Crashes and so on). Then I raise the voltae up to 2.10 and it goes fine.
The problem of Ryzon with all this matters id that it will find any problem in your PC, in apy part, and then will crash.

I just upped my RAM to 2 gigs...its not even the latest and greates RAM, but I def. noticed a difference in loading times. In game was better, but it was subtle. You just FEEL differences like that. I will run FRAPS and see if there was much frame rate difference.
MY guess is that you will not notice much difference, even at a certain level. This game just runs heavy, its a clunky graphics engine, and needs to be upgraded! Lets all stick around and pay our 15 bux a month and it'll get fixed.
It's what your used to, also. If you get used to 14 FPS, go for it. I find a good setting, and stay by it. It's only when I start cranking things to max MAX that I notice.
