- Quests + Lore = Immersion
LMFAO.

Questing = easier game = wider appeal = larger population = worse community.

Questing = mere illusion of grandeur shattered the instant you realize everyone else has saved the princess from the dragon a million times too.

Rites, however, are the right way to go. They give you a story of past lore/history instead of trying to fool you into thinking you're doing anything important right now.

Bah, I replied on the wrong thread. So I really have nothing to say about this thread. And being that I always make short, concise posts and edits, I thought I would edit this post as it is really just a ramble and about nothing in particular. So in the spirit of breavity.....

I blame Pipp

Questing can be more than saving princesses ..

Actually it can be a lot much more: Dynamic individual quests, faction quests, community quests, live quest events, etc.. that unlock or trigger parts of the Ryzom saga .

As for a larger population makes a worse community, you lost me there.

The more people there are, the more ass-hats there are.
The easier a game is, the more people there are who are barely capable of understanding it even as easy as it is, i.e. "Xxxuberpwnzorzxxx says : l0lz lfg 32om . any1 tell me weres teh mage traner"

We already have most of that. It's just not shoved in players' faces on amber platters by NPCs.

Sorry, I'd better stop posting for a while. I'm disturbed, disoriented, tired, and aggravated after dreaming non-stop last night and ending up with a headache.

Agreed! :) (except for that last bit about posting and dreams Oo - hope you feel better!)

as to the earlier question on 'what do you do to spend the time'

... um, hehe this is an interesting question - a lot of people say 'teaming, digging, crafting, xp hunts' and all that - and the more 'immersed' players will go for boss hunts and the constant search for the _PERFECT_ recipie for crafting different items, etc etc..

but me? i just "live" on Atys :) the other day Dragon-man and I had nice shootout in the middle of Dyron :) we stood back to back, took our ten paces, turned, and began shooting :) it was a blast - we used pistols, launchers, and rifles - both of us at close to same lvls :) basically it was our own way of 'playing around' - something i'd do in real life - only i'm doing it through my character in-game.

the shootout had absolutly no reason to be done at all - we did not gain xp, (tho i did gain a craft lvl from the launcher ammo i made :p ) - we did not gain loot or treasures or items - we just did for '**** and giggles' - and we plan to do it again soon :)

if you live for questing, This is _NOT_ your game. the rites are wonderful and fun, Jela 'splained that well - but many are broken and need to be reworked. completing these rites gives one true satisfaction - you _know_ everyone else has completed them, but that ruins nothing. you didnt just save the same princess the other guy did - you were initiated into more knowledge and learned the lore of your people, taking the first steps into helping rebuild the Former Glory of Atys.

roezen wrote:As for pulling multiple mobs, it seems even with medium gear at the lower lvls a caster only can take one or three hits often. The combat structure seems to support a creature killing someone in 3 hits, or allowing the person to dodge/parry a few times in a row and take no hits (making combat unpredictable in a wide range from very easy to very hard). Pulling multiple creatures invariably gets one of the casters killed (not that I don't smerk in real life *wink* as I prefer melee).

IMHO: Sounds to me like your caster team-mates have NOT spent enough time leveling melee, and/or have not purchased the Constitution and Strength upgrades, or (maybe?) are too low a level to be teamed with a melee of your level. Casters should aways level their melee skills to improve their overall survival rate. Combat skills (offensive, not defensive) in a team should all be roughly the same level until you get to the higher levels. Healers "always" hit so a lower level healer is not a detriment to the team at all. Even on RoS, my newby Alt handles himself very well as a caster in LIGHT armour.

Another tactic that may work well for you: Let the caster "pull" the creature from max range using his/her acid spell, then taunt the critter and take his attention off the mage and onto you as it reaches your location. Healer (if you have one) can start healing Immediately as the battle starts (right after the first cast) giving everyone a chance to get in a hit and thereby gain XP. Oh, and always go after creatures that are at least at the level of the highest skill set being used.

I've played at every single hour of the day at some time or another in the 5 weeks I've been on ML and I've never seen Yrkanis and the surrounding regions deserted, there are always people around. There are also guild members on pretty much 24/7 much to my surprise.

With regards to the OP - /agree.

I tried Ryzom before the unlimited trial and the new starter Island and I lasted all of a couple hours before going elsewhere.

I came back 6 weeks ago, spent a week on the new Island, then subscribed. I haven't regretted it one bit and am very glad I returned.

*on original topic*
Indeed Its nice to See RoS with an Unlimited Trial... While it will of course bring in the "ass-hats" as Katriell stated. It also brings in the Players we all want to see and with it being an Unlimited trial, more of those players are willing to take the time to "learn" the game with out having to worry about loosing the $14.95 USD on a 1 month Sub fee if they end up not liking the game.

*on shoot out*
So NB when you gonna git yer butt back in so i can get back at you for the Back-stabin axe attack at the stables :D ... This Dragon-man has an itching for some of yer Blood....*sharpens his Filet knives*
