*LOL* Man be carefull, I just read something like that on a WoW Forum.
One poor fella lost his Wife to "the Game" (actually his Guildmaster) and being a longtime LARPer I can personaly attest that things like this do happen, at least in LARP. *tips his hat to his Ex and shrugs*

But as long as you enjoy yourself and don´t "overdo it" it´s ok ;)

As beautiful and playable a game as WoW is in reaching the level/abilities cap, it becomes an all-too familiar experience once you cap. I'm not interesting in grinding a semi-linear endgame itemization cycle, I've done that..
This statement characterizes Wow so accurately for many players. 4 months after starting the game, I hit 60 with my primary character, a Palladin. By creating 6 more characters and cycling through them, I was able to extend my play time for another 9 months before I hit the wall for the last time.

Your right. If it sounded like I was criticizing Wow for doing 10 quests in an hour, I was'nt. Just blabbing. :) I did not lose it with WoW until I hit the end game wall. So if I missed it, are you still playing WoW, playing SoR or both?
tannack wrote:Dare I say it, but that's not the fault of the game, it's the fault of the players.

My wife and I started into WoW as a couple of humans, and simply worked our way through the Abbey, Goldshire and then moved on into Westfall. Taking our time, and just slowly doing the quests, and actually *READING* what was going on, we found it painted a very vivid picture of that region. As we slowly followed the quest chain, it became apparent that the Defias (bad guys) had a valid grevance. Van Cleef's last words before he dies are "Our cause is just." (*) He had a point.

(*) Or a paraphasal of that meaning.

But against that backdrop, yes, the world of WoW is stagnating.

As a matter of necessity, WoW MUST present it's content as scripted quests. When you consider that their subscription base comprises 1/10th of one percent of the entire world's population, (**) they can't realistically do GM sponsored events. And to a degree, they do some good story telling in those quests.

(**) About 6 billion people on earth, about 6 million subscribers to WoW. Do the math.

However, that implies that you have the option of looking them up on thottbot if you want to. It's an interesting commentary on what people want that such information is available and is used so heavily.

It's hard to say that Ryzom is better or worse than WoW. For every criticism you can level at either game, it's possible to find something wrong with the other. All that can honestly be said is that they're incredibly different.

If you do a quick number crunch, it works out that you should expect to spend, on average around 50 hours in UBRS trying to get your tier 1 chest piece in WoW. Do you have the same "end game grind" here? Maybe you do? How long do you have to fight bosses, and dig for materials in PR, in order to collect the required mats to make the most Uber end game weapon / armor? However, you DON'T need to spend that entire time teamed with 14 other players, that's for sure. None of that awful "raid or quit" mentality.

mikadou wrote:I loved WoW for a year. It was my first MMO. I had a fantastic guild of great people (which compensated for the overall poor community, as I just ignored most of everyone else, heh).

But as its been said, hitting level cap becomes an entirely different game. Pure raiding grind and loot hoarding. Before I had ever played an MMO, I loved the concept of a 'world' to explore and carve a niche in. WoW is very much a social 'game'. There is no attempt to make it live on a level beyond collecting loots. I may dual-subscribe when the X-pack comes out, but until then, I look forward to exploring Atys. ;)
At this point, on newbie island, I'm not sold on SoR but it's keeping my interest! :)

Someone said that WoW's Burning Crusade expansion will include a series of small party instances which seems tempting. What interested me most about WoW was exploring the world and doing quests along the way. I really disliked the fact that I loved some of WoW's zones, I mean loved them, but once you finished all of the quests, it was time to move on. I always dreamed about setting up a house and hanging out in a large zone exploring all of it's nooks and crannies. But the game makes you a gypsy without a home.

So, from what I'm gathering, the Ring expansion is going to allow for a form of user-created content, via some sort of templates Nevrax will provide?

Gotta admit, I'm very intrigued by this. This will be the first expansion, right? Its very telling that the first major addition to the game comes in this form. Is that what more advanced players do here already, except without having any sort of game structure to support it?

Players taking RP to the next level, and truly providing their own content, whether its supported by in-game mechanisms or just on a consentual basis, is like the "pie in the sky" of MMORPGdom to me. The problem becomes that those creating and running the events better be good storytellers in addition to their willingness to volunteer the time and energy. Otherwise despite appreciating the effort, its just not captivating enough.

I don't mean to look so far ahead, its just I can't help it, its my nature. ;)

I've got the writing/creative experience. So hopefully the tools won't be too mindbending or I can partner up with someone with more of a programmy type brain. We shall see...
