I don't remember the details I'm afraid. I'm not sure how they were going to achieve the aging - it's definitely technically possible via a number of techniques, but it would be tricky - and certainly time consuming to create a satisfying effect. Some can be achieved manipulating the geometry of a model - shader-based vertex manipulation for details, and simple whole-object scaling for overall size changes (like the height slider on char creation). On top of that technique, you'd need several 'evolutions' of the model to manipulate, since adult forms posess many details that can't be achieved by simply deforming the same 'young' model (the model needs new vertices rather than just moving the originals more).

Well if its optinal then i retract my statment lol...Cus id just make a alt char to age and have kids then die and keep my main Alive ..FOREVER !!! or atleast till im done wit the game :p

IIRC the original article about the children was in one of the dev chats with David Cohen on the OLD forum.

The concept he discussed was that TWO players would agree to have a child. The child would be 'born' with some characteristics of both parents (can't remember if this included some of their stats etc.). Then BOTH parents would age and die.

Kind of begs the question which player gets the child? :D

EDIT: @dazman you're not really off topic, this is a discussion about new content and you're just discussing the how. ;)

Hmm, it does indeed :) And does the other get sucked into the mighty black hole, never to be seen again? Children are far too much trouble...

I may be completely wrong, but if I remember correctly, there were discussions about 2 children, precisely.

That said, it was an interesting discussion and an intringuing addition, but to be considered in the ryzom pre-launch, immediate post-launch setting and imho, one of the "the possibilities are endless" items drown in a framework of optimism, much as cosmetics, music, sitting animations, angels and daemons, Zoraï Goo hunter professions, buildings, :) . A few things have changed since then, and I would dare to say that these may not be a top priority now...
