And why are you wasting precious bits and bytes to tell me that you like it? Maybe I dont care either? ;)

I dont have many problems with the games design or this "supposed" lack of content. What is lacking is other people though. Its hard to call this game a MMORPG atm

Hi folks!

Some of you raised some good points here, both positive and negative. I'd like to use the opportunity and explain a few things. They say every complaint is an opportunity. But you can imagine I'm not going by common Customer Support rulebooks and guidelines when I say... You are absolutely right - Things aren't perfect.

You see, launching an online game isn't exactly the easiest gig in the world, and despite the fact that we have some truly unique and brilliant people working on this project, you can't possibly do everything right.

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, but that's not important. What's important is how you deal with your mistakes. Do you ignore them, or learn from them? Do you ignore complaints, or listen to them? I'll leave it to you guys to decide which one of those is the case here.

Your feedback shows me how much you care, how much you love the Game. You are passionate, but you don't take crap from anyone either. ;) I am proud to be able to work with a community like this one.

There's nothing to be worried about really. If you take a quick look at the first two major content updates to Ryzom, I'm sure you will see a large number of features that you've been asking for, as well as the features we were hoping to get into the game at launch. I admit, we could've implemented them at launch, but what good is a feature that's just not enjoyable in its current state? Too many developers make this mistake and squeeze half-hearted features into retail versions, just to be able to say they're there. We don't play by these rules, and perhaps that's one of the reasons why we're still here.

You know, once in a while, perhaps every 2 or 3 years, someone with a creative and brilliant mind develops a game that makes you go "Woah!". A game that you fall in love with and become hopelessly addicted to. A game you would skip lunch breaks, appointments and sleep for. The Saga of Ryzom is one of these games.

But before this becomes a novel, I'd like to sum things up and just say that none of your complaints will go unheard. The problems you've pointed out will be dealt with as soon as possible. Promise. :)

Respectfully submitted,
Lawrence

Lawrence, I appreciate your willingness to respond to a thread like this, but I suspect you're going to get heavily flamed for following this line of reasoning. You admit you could have implemented them at launch, but they were half finished? That clearly beggars the response, 'why didn't you delay the launch?' Now, I'm 99% sure the reason is that then you'd have been going head to head against the 'big 2' of MMO's and thought that would have been commercial suicide, so you released as soon as you could to try and get in first. It seems like a reasonable decision and there's nothing necessarily wrong with making it. I just think that maybe people should be honest enough to admit to it if that's the case and not try and spin their way around the issue.

As is usual in a response like this, I should point out that I am enjoying the game immensely and intend no disrespect. I can wait for the features promised and hope that releasing the game in this state was the right call to make.

Actually the problems with this launch i feel are fairly mild compared to some. I simple dont understand the lack of players, considering how heavily the game has been pumped, and the fact that overall, its a fairly polished released compared to some recent efforts.

Distribution? ok yes i can see how thats a problem, but it must be a pretty massive distribution error to see the numbers i see online.

I just dont understand it...You get the feeling half the planet is waiting for WoW or EQ2. Here's a couple points for those people.

a) Who's to say that either one will be significantly better than what we have here. Admittedly im not privi to either one of those beta's but i doubt it

b) Unless your in North America, expect to wait at least 3 months for either one. Probably longer

Im not sure what else can be done, apart from as ive said in other threads, for Nevrax to keep working on there title, and finally get that distribution sorted, and to perhaps push for a few reviews on the major websites and magazines, especially in Europe.

Lets hope Nevrax can hold the fort for a couple months and get some decent subscription levels. Must be some very anxious people at HQ right now.

Im almost certain that was the reason, and quite frankly, that is a 100% correct decision, either the game had to be released now or half way through next year, when the hype around those two titles had simmered down, and perhaps a good bunch of people had tried them and figured it wasnt the game for them...

I think this was the right decision

The soup was a great appetizer but the main course lacks in every respect. Since you have to pay for it anyway you are just eating up hoping that the dessert will at least help you to feel like you didnt throw your money completely out of the window.

borguk is just eating up.

Very nice Analogy. :D

Was this guy on some obscure Mandarin speaking goat farmers server?

I also wonder how many games this guy played from day 1, you cant expect rammed servers from the word go.

If thats what you want, never play a MMORPG within 6 months of release.

Unlike a lot of other MMORPGs it has a lot of quality players in it and a low level of whining 12 year olds which makes a refreshing change.

AC2 I played for a few weeks and frankly it bored the pants off me, it isnt half the game Ryzom is.

I think the comments about WoW and EQ2 are fair, putting Ryzom off would have been commercial suicide, and putting it off for 12 months would have hurt them a lot financially.

To those in the mainlands, theres a lot of people in the noobie worlds its just that you dont see them yet... wait for them to get bored and press the button.

The idea of cosseting newbies is a good one, but the fact that you cannot see into either world at all and theres no population figures doesn't help people from feeling isolated.

Give it time... people will come.... quality people as well. I would rather play on a sparsely populated server with good people than one rammed full of kids.

Thanx for the post Lawrence, nice to see someone with balls for a change in Customer Relations :P

I was never in Beta and I can honestly say the only reason I bought the game was a filler until WOW came out (not interested in EQ2 as I played EQ for 5 years and promised myself I wouldn’t spend any more $$ with SOE) but after playing the game for a week I really like it.

I have 1 request, can you not take any more subscriptions till I'm level 150 then open the flood gates so I can strut my stuff around n00bys in town like all those Americans did to me in all the other online games I have played.

Oh don’t get me wrong I love most of the Americans I met in other games like EQ - DAOC - AO etc.

Just trying add a little humor to this thread :)
