This post got a lot more attention than I though it would. A lot of people here have many good points and I may indeed stick it out and see how things are affected.
Several people have mentioned some things I wish to highlight. First the lack of healers at the lower levels thereby increasing the perception of difficulty at these levels. This is definitely something I have noticed. I think my suggestion about decreasing the power of heals based on a decreasing curve sort of reflected this. Maybe this would be a good solution, I don't know.
The fact that there is also only one heal tree is another thing which might be looked at more thoroughly for the reasons already stated by other posters here.
I would also like to note in my defense that my healing is well above 50 at this point. It's been my main skill since I've started the game. I enjoy support classes and play one in almost every game that I try. I was also not trying to be negative with my post. I started it praising the game. I hoped it was obvious that I have a great deal of affection for it even though I've only been playing a short time. I also have a great respect for what the dev team and the community has accomplished here. This post really had one function, to provide the viewpoint of a new incoming player. In games of this genre, where one has to pay to play, first impressions are everything. If someone isn't having fun someone isn't going to continue paying a monthly fee to play said game. I really hope it's obvious that I *don't* want to see this happen to this game. That being said, I am going to give it a chance after the patch. I'll stick around, and see what happens, and if I continue to have fun, then I shall continue to play.

I can tell you exactly what happened...
HP healing started out much weaker, just the same as stam and sap heals are now. Healers (myself among them) complained just after Ryzom's launch that in order to heal a tank of our own level, we would have to heal quite fast or outright spam fast heals. Bombs were very strong, but there was still the tank issue.
Nevrox's solution, which seemed a fabulous one at the time, was to triple heal strength. I believe that's what we still have today. Bombs were also weakened greatly. It turned out this was not really a solution, however, because healers still made spells without time credits, they just made weaker ones that were almost free. Relatively low level healers were also made very overpowered when using expensive spells.
Healing wasn't that terrible when it was low powered, and we'll still have better than that. Bombs will also be usable once again, and they were very useful for taking care of your mages in one shot, as well as melees' stamina, quick party recoveries after AOEs, making sure you don't have to leave your tank for a sec to heal another, etc :)

WB Noin. And a very interesting suggestion about split in heals.
How about:
- staff (dual wield possible, only one bar can be healed when wielding that staff (so staff of lifeheal and a staff of sapheal))
- amps (all possible, but slower (???))
- barehanded, nothing equipped.
I have the feeling this is what you meant too
And nice to hear the starter of the thread is sticking around.

Very good point and very well made. Glad to hear you'll give it a chance. Hope we both continue to have fun.

Actually I think the real thing that needs to be addressed is teaching every new player by level 30 what an enchant is, what sap crystals are, and how to use them. This is truly the biggest factor at these lower levels. Everyone can heal, they just do not know how to.
Given the choice between multiple party wipes and learning to use an enchant, I believe everyone would choose the enchant route.
Noin.

powering up my heal so far has been a really tiring experience. being able to heal yourself and get xp for that would make my life easier. however, i do do a lot of group heals, and it isn't that bad, maybe cause im at a slighty higher level now. but nerf it for the peeps under level 100 and im screwed. it'll be like me being at leve 40 again
and the enchants are great!. but not a whole lot of peeps like to use em for some reason

marct wrote:P.S. I always though 1 handed healing would be cool. You would get half of the bonus that your amps give. Imagine like dagger and sword, I could be shield and 1 amp, 1 amp and 1 bare handed heal, 1 amp, 1 staff, etc. Gets pretty interesting mixing acitons and stanzas then.
Could be a good idea, not just for healing, but for all magic. It would be nice if the staff had some purpose.
I remember when Amps had mis-titles, like "Magician's Bok Staff", was the original reason for 1h staves as mini-Amps? is that why they are so comparatively weak now, compared to other 1h weapons?
It would also be interesting to see what would happen with dual-wield 1h staves (half strength from a standard Amp, but with more options) or a staff and shield combo (half strength, better defense, but +50 malus from the shield).
