How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Hmmm nice infos, and maybe more intereting would be not mats/per hour but how many hours to fill a mek ;)
I'm spotting always some delayments for:
-chatting
-helping around
-escaping (from Wyac ie)
-loading mek

See, I really need to finish that article about mats per hour...
It's not just mats per hour but digs per hour too. You'd get more xp digging 400 mats with 40 actions than with 20 (even at the same speed of digging).

Yes, I meant that as well. But max mats per hour at your highest ql is not very different from max xp per hour afaik.
Well, hmmm, hmmm. Thinking....

Each dig have a base exp and an exp per mat, if we ignore the prospecting and moveing around we can calculate the exp gained:

total exp gained = (A/C)*(E+F*G)
A = periode of time for total exp
C = extract time in seconds
E = base exp per extract
F = average amount of mats extracted per extract
G = mat exp

Or if same exp is gained per extract
total exp gained = (A/C)*H
A = periode of time for total exp
C = extract time in seconds
H = exp per extract

If we add prospecting (again assuming no movemont);

total exp gained = (A/(B+C*D))*(E+F*G)
A = periode of time for total exp
B = prospect time in seconds
C = extract time in seconds
D = extracts per prospect
E = base exp per extract
F = average amount of mats extracted per extract
G = mat exp

Or if same exp is gained per extract
total exp gained = (A/(B+C*D))*H
A = periode of time for total exp
B = prospect time in seconds
C = extract time in seconds
D = extracts per prospect
H = exp per prospect

Some observations
- More extracts per prospects should improve exp
- Shorter extracts appear to outweight longer ones, since long extracts losses the higher base exp.
- Prospect should be as short as possible, as it doesn't add to exp in itself (besides the +25% bonus of own sources).
- Grab as many mats per prospect as possible.

For further info on E,F,G and H read the thread on harvest exp. ;)

Just for the heck of it, exp gained including non-harvesting time :p

total exp gained = ((A1-A2)/(B+C*D))*(E+F*G)
A1 = periode of time for total exp in seconds
A2 = Time not used on harvesting (in seconds), moveing around etc.
B = prospect time in seconds
C = extract time in seconds
D = extracts per prospect
E = base exp per extract
F = average amount of mats extracted per extract
G = mat exp

Yes, you could just have A as the total time. This is just so you can set A1 for an hour, and then count the wasted time on another counter (A2).

mmmmmm... equations. Shiny.

One thing I've noticed that you didn't mention: If the source explodes or leaks toxic gas, the xp goes down. So if 10 mats gets me 1700 xp, but I use careplan less to get 12 mats and let it blow, I'll actually get less than 1700 xp even though I pulled more mats. If xp is my main goal, fewer mats is preferable to letting the source blow up.

Also noticed that even though more mats = more xp, it equals less xp per mat. i.e. take the xp you get and divide it by number of mats pulled. When I get 10 vs. 11, I get more xp per mat for 10 mats. You're equations probably confirm this, but I noticed it as a general thing as well.

(no, I'm not an expert at this; just contributing the one or two things I noticed to help make a total picture)

I noticed the more xp per thing a while ago. So I use minimum time & dig three sources per prospect for 12 mats per source and 3x 2k xp. If I increased extract time I would pull 15 or so mats over 2 sources for 2x 2.5k ish xp. More mats & more xp. Q190 desert & q150 forest.

My current pr setup is as follows....
4575 Focus
Gentle Speed 5
Harmful Rate 6
Gentle Quality 170
Underground Spec
fits into a 182 brick

No bonus time on at all apart from the rites, I get 17 or 18 mats (depends on how much care required) and hit 4 sources every time. Really nice when sup pops as I can get max in one prospect ;) I run out of focus just before the source time is up.

Some people were asking about mats per minute so I did some testing today to find out how many mats I average per minute using the stanza's I posted in the 1st post. Test was done in the desert so there were no weather issue's, only downtime was running from one source to another as they were depleted. Over the course of digging a full bag it averaged out to 11.5 mats per minute.

I didn't count how many pulls it took, but it should be 23 or 24 for the 400+ mats.

altomesa wrote:Given the diversity of available stanza's for foraging I thought it would be interesting and possibly quite informative for some to see who uses what stanza's and how many mats per pull they get.

I'll start: I use a 2 stage dig. Using lvl250 skill and starting with 4625 focus I pull 17-18 mats per pull consistantly, the 1st stage consists of the following stanza's:

Speed 3 Gentle
Rate 6 Harmful
Q250 Gentle
Terrain Specialization (PR, Desert, etc)
Extraction Counterpart -182

When I get down to about 1700 focus left I switch to the 2nd stage which consists of:

Speed 6 Gentle
Rate 6 Harmful
Q250 Gentle
Terrain Specialization (PR, Desert, etc)
Absorb Source Damage 40% (Rite reward)
Extraction Counterpart -270

How many mats do you pull and how?

P.S. The above is based on digging solo, no outside CP help.
i use same Stanza..
Speed 3 Gentle
Rate 6 Harmful
Q250 Gentle
Terrain Specialization (PR, Desert, etc)
Extraction Counterpart -182

my Prospect is ...
Terrain
Range 10
Angle 360
Multiple Spot 7
Knowledge 3
Accelerated Prospecting 5
Upto Supreme (PR)
Extraction Time Bonus 4
Forage Counterpart 13

this allows me to dig 18-21 mats per source (depending on source content)
also lets me dig 3 sources per prospect.
But i do not change my extraction stanza, i use same all the time during my dig, this stanza i use in Forest & PR, which is kinda useful as i normally dig lower lvl player sources & still get around the same mats as they use around the same time bonus's.
