Alien Invasion??

Maybe one day we will have to join with the Kitin to save our planet from a far greater danger.......

And if you read the lore overview, pay attention to the last sentence!!

For time is already running short. The destiny of Atys is about to change hands. Someone, or something already has their sights on the Green Planet, looking for the Ryzom.
Something BAD is coming!! ;)

This has been nagging me from day one here:

Rhizome
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

In botany, a rhizome is a horizontal, usually underground stem of a plant that often sends out roots and shoots from its nodes. They are also referred to as creeping rootstalks, or rootstocks.

Many plants have rhizomes that serve to spread the plant by vegetative reproduction. Examples are asparagus and Lily of the valley. The spreading stems of ferns are also called rhizomes.

A tuber is a thickened part of a rhizome that has been enlarged for use as a storage organ. They are typically high in starch. An example is the common potato.

Rhizome metaphors

Carl Jung used the term "rhizome" but also called myzel to emphasize the invisible and underground nature of life:

Life has always seemed to me like a plant that lives on its rhizome. Its true life is invisible, hidden in the rhizome. The part that appears above the ground lasts only a single summer. Then it withers away—an ephemeral apparition. When we think of the unending growth and decay of life and civilizations, we cannot escape the impression of absolute nullity. Yet I have never lost the sense of something that lives and endures beneath the eternal flux. What we see is blossom, which passes. The rhizome remains. (Prologue from "Memories, Dreams, Reflections")

Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari used the term "rhizome" to describe theory and research that allows for multiple, non-hierarchical entry and exit points in data representation and interpretation.

Ryzom = Rhizome?

Btw, anyone else here watched that anime 'Kaena - The Prophecy'? It so strikes me as an inspiration for SoR everytime I watch it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 5?v=glance

nanotech seed, a self-contained and sealed capsule containing assemblers and replicators pre-programmed with templates or instructed. The seed is "planted" on a substrate, and activated with energy or a nuitrant spray. It then grows into the desired product, using locally aquired resources and ambient energy (e.g. sunlight) or - in the case of some large nanoseeds, a small amat battery
Upto the last years only nature was able to produce in nano scale.

When asked what "Ryzom" meant, either DCC or one of the devs said it was based on the word Rhizome

Also: new "photos" of the goo show it on a microscopic (or smaller, ie nanoscopic) scale. I'm leaning towards Jy's guess at a kind of "Grey Goo" situation here.

Unlike whoever said it up there tho, I think that the karavan are likely to be the "scientists" in control and they are trying to fight the goo as well; there's no hint of them using the goo on purpose to try and wipe us out/make us slaves...

Seems from Kaet's post that the old lore and the new lore (that most of us thought were completely different) are supporting each other for once :D

Are they infected ? Seraching for a cure ? Is it that why they wear those strange masks and suits ?

I think its more likely the masks are environment suits to protect them against anything bad that could be on Atys, Goo or otherwise (I doubt they are natives) and also to give them an air of mystery and power towards the homins.

On a side note, the new lore pages say:
And reaching high up into the sky above the Bark, like a tree extending its branches towards the sun, the tendrils entwined into an immense network of interwoven Canopies. And there too, Atys supported life superbly.
Sounds like we can expect lots of cool stuff up there :D

Maybe the Karavan and Kami are infact one race :P

Karavan the 'pure version' - proctected by their suits
Kami the 'goo/atys version' - infected cas they took off their protection.

Deranged Homin vs Homin
Boss Mobs vs Mobs

Who knows?

The one think we know for certain is, we just don't know!
