I made a pretty good (IMO) post about this somewhere... it may have even been on the US board.

The gist of it is basically respect.

The non-RPers have to respect that some of us (more than normal for an MMO) like to roleplay. That may include things like 'talking weird' or playing in a way that doesn't necessarily max XP or mean we wear/use the best equipment, having long conversations or participating in or hosting events that don't ACTUALLY 'accomplish' anything.

The RPers have to respect that not everyone likes to roleplay, or understands it. I've had people react positively and negatively to my RP, mostly positive or neutral though but I don't press the case. Part of my character persona is an irascible flirt and casanova, given most players are actually men you can appreciate the problem there and some people get uncomfortable with even a hint of flirtatious RP. So be clear you're RPing and have no interest in... erm... well, you know.

Slaughtering someone out of hand for being of one faction or the other, when its purely a game advantage related decision for them isn't necessarily fair or being a good player, both sides have to make compromises in the way they play to make things better for everyone.

Play maturely and responsibly.

It would be REALLY nice if there was a way for us Roleplayers to identify each other, a title or a big 'effin hat or symbol or something.

That would be nice yes, perhaps senda a suggestion ticket about it ?

I myself enjoy RPing a lot. And I am also one of those that are neutral as I am still looking and learning about things.

The basics for me when playing is that everyone shall have fun, and we all have it in our own uniques ways. =)

Everyone should try to listen what other say ingame. I most cases it is fully clear if the opposite is RP or not.

The starter of this thread shows clearly that he likes to RP a karavan killer. If he would be a plain PK he wouldnt have asked here about this subject.

So, if someone appoaches you in PR asking you if you are a #*?&§ follower of karavan you know something is cooking there.

On the other hand, when the asked one reacts like: "uuhm, erm.. what you mean ?" One should know this one is NOT RP and its useless for your role to attack him.

And grimjim is right. Something like the /afk would be nice in some situations. A /role and a /role off could be very useful sometimes.

So basically what you are saying Jyudas, is that a character that RP's should try and find people who RP too?
I read the perspective in this thread that RP as an excuse to PK in PR is lame. I also read the opinion once that PR is meant to be dangerous and people whould not whine for getting killed there.

So when it adds up, we are all playing a game. A game is meant to have fun in and with. A game that is basically pleyer interaction. A game in which one player can kill another if they are in the right places.

I think there are plenty of opportunities to kill Karavan followers, to battle them in a way that an RP element is heavily present. Looking at it from all possible sides, attacking harvesters in PR because they are Karavan or Kami while there is actually peace between the factions is stupid and merely a mask one is wearing to be able to PK.

Wasn't it the Karavan who actually forbid their followers to explore the Prime Roots? Seeing you as an opposer to all Karavan, they are wrong and that and Karavan diggers in PR is a *good* thing.

Aren't it the Kami who nuke you into oblivion when a bar is worn out? I dont know about the US servers, but the lands that are most harmfull stripmined and where is bar is down first are all Kami lands for some reason. Why are the Karavan all of a sudden the e-ville technicrats?

Sure, religion is not about reason but one of the things I hate most in character and on real life, it is a tunnelview towards the one and only right thing. There are enough extremists to deal with in real life, in the newspaper blowing up buses, in the government telling people they are not free to die if they want to or to love who they want to and on the television trying to make me think their way.
The things I do in my spare time is to get as far from reality as possible, playing Ryzom is a tried and tested method for me. But now extremism is turning it's ugly head? (there is my RL bitterness Psylo) Very strong opposal of an extremist is extreme in itself, so I am really trying not to give in and maintain reasonable.

But in the end, I would rather spend a hot and steamy night in the Pyr bathhouse with a Stalking Stinga then let you be a griefer with an excuse.

And again the question to the Samsara: What is the current price on this guys head?

Welcome raynez!
I for one wont ever look down on pk based on rp! I have played RP-based MUDS for thousands of hours where pk have been a part of life, there i came to love always watching over my shoulder for my enemies. I know that with pk comes griefers but their reign tends to be very short. Running around killing people all the time is lame, killing people that doesnt stand a chance is lame... But occasional pk of enemies, be it by religion, race, alignment, clan i think is ok.

I think Atys is far to peaceful, and i think its very strange that people are SOOOOOOO afraid of dying, i just dont get it... People shouldnt expect to get the best stuff (in pr/nexus) without risk? Bring a bodyguard or two if you want to get thoose supreme mats down there. Yes i know its not safe down there even without the threat of pk)

Were not in "kindergarten" everyone isnt supposed to be best friends..
Thank you raynez for rp:ing, its what takes this game beyond grinding...

Hehe, doubt it - I think Frydeswinde knows us only too well ;)

Those are valid points though and maybe a new source of income - "buy your 100% Kami goods from us" and "fence your Karavan goods to stupid Kami lovers through us"...

(
I think the current RP on the EE server is done without the need to PK each other i.e. words with very few actions. You can get a strong reaction the occasional few times that someone gets killed or not rezzed. Like Jyudas says, maturity and responsibility are the key.

I'm not sure about the RP flag though - people without the flag might just ignore the weirdos with the flag and those with it might stop wasting their time on the cretins with no flag :P I think most non-RP people wouldn't say no to a small amount of RP (unless in the middle of a powerlevelling session ;) ) and we're not IC all the time.

I try to RP with everyone to a certain extent - it's interesting to see their reactions no matter their outlook. I think I'd be tempted to turn my RP flag off and still do it, maybe I'm just bad in real life too :D

I suspect one big difference between the servers is that we haven't really picked Kami/Karavan sides. Everyone is quite happy to team, trade and hang out with their opposites. IMO we're split into two different religions (or agnostic) that don't really conflict and so tolerate each other. Who knows how this may change when more of the plot it revealed. Outposts too will bring conflict and these disputes can fuel (or be fuelled) by RP.

/role off

We say here (free translated)

Nothing gets eaten that hot then it gets cooked !

I am not 100% sure but i think EVO doesnt dig in PR a lot. Probably you will never meet this player in a PvP area.

We have so many extremes there.

Players who only try to get the best gear available.
Players who try to reach "celestial guardian". Damn it takes nearly an masochist to accomplish this :D
Players who craft q190 jewels with quite less degrades

/role
Out there are so many mobs. First i thought those Ragus are the pest. I changed my mind when meeting my first group of Varinx. Loria is one huge killer for me. So why should i care about an karavan hunter in prime roots ?

True. Every bit of it.

Ok,
Is spoiling an kami/karavan event by coming there and making bad comments RP?
Is killing harvester in PR in focus armor, with focus jewels and pick in a hand RP? Boredom? Way to get rid of RL frustration ingame? Spoil my relex-after-work fun?

Someone said that Ryzom is RP paradise (or something like that. Maybe you grimjim? can't remember). Is it RP paradise?
Storyline is changed one time. First version is still on WoR site (from 06.2003):
http://www.worldofryzom.jolt.co.uk/inde ... v_overview
http://www.worldofryzom.jolt.co.uk/inde ... ge=karavan
http://www.worldofryzom.jolt.co.uk/index.php?page=kami
I remember when Jena was goddess of us all. Will the story change again? What do we really know? Do we have enough knowledge (of course not, how many rite missions can give us any knowledge? 7-8 of 40)? Will we be chaising Kamis and karavans over 6 months as Kitins now? I don't know. Neither do you.

Now about RP.
What is RP? For me is that building "fame" your own character in story line. In Ryzom, atm, you can only make good fame with other players by healing some dead "homins". Making bad fame is easy.
I don't see any good RP posibility in Ryzom (ATM).
I January i was beta testing game that does'nt exist anymore. "Wish". It had big lag, bad graphics and some other stuff i did'nt like, but there was something very interesting. Event team was continue buzy and you can't get same mission all over again. All unique. When you are done with your mission/eventmission and if that mission is hard, your name and story about it comes in ingame newspaper (also on webpage). For me that's perfect RP. Too bad old "Wish" page is down so i can't show you link to some of those newspapers.
