The roots are not dungeons, they are merely another land to explore...
another 'eco-system' as nevrax call them.
Instanced or permanant dungeons all have thier place on Atys if implemented properly.
Example of how Instanced dungeons could work :-
see a Kami NPC he gives a quest to your party/group.
"Theres been Sightings of a Karavan Starship landed nearby in the Grove of Umbra, i am entrusting you and your mighty guild to discover its purpose"
This would only appear to anyone in the group/guild and would probably provide a whole evenings/afternoons entertainment - perhaps not only to fight through but there could be puzzles and such inside to uncover the mysteries of the Karavan plot...

Re: Dungeons
The ones you can see in the sky are not part of the map, they are an object floating over your head, only moving a little when you move, teleport, etc. You can see it's fake when you move up and down, they won't come closer down or go further up (they forgot to add this location parameter to calculate the location of the thing in the sky). Something like a 3d skymaphans1976 wrote:I can see by your reply you haven't done some proper exploring, dear homin.

Indeedy, most probably a six-sided skymap

The roots are a place where you can't kill anything unless your entire team is 180-200+

Usually, skymaps are generated using 6 textures, so they can be mapped onto 6 flat surfaces

... I mean it MOVES like a skymap, it's not generated like a skymap, it's still an object.. It only MOVES like the same way a skymap does.dazman76 wrote:Usually, skymaps are generated using 6 textures, so they can be mapped onto 6 flat surfaces![]()

Imagine a map with the sky texture.hans1976 wrote:What is a skymap?
Imagine that map is placed over your head.
Then when that map falls (from the sky) it's a skymap.

Normal dungeons are nothing more than a zone with a ceiling. What this game has missing compared to others is a /who that actualy works so that you know there are people in the dungeon before you run all the way there.

Re: Dungeons
Ok, I must say I miss some elements (like dungeons) and what elements as such contribute to a game (variation of gameplay, mini adventures in a confined space with a group/guild etc.). The problem is, I feel that Ryzom is such a big "mystery", and if everyone discovered the same parts of the mystery over and over again by finishing some missions in a dungeon, it ripps of the over-all mystery feeling of this game.
The Encyclopedia is a start that takes of in the right direction, but I still dont really like it that as soon as the encyclopedia rites are "known", everyone does them and they dont become special anymore, and neither is the info pages you get as a reward with the amber cubes. In some way, I treasure Ryzom to holy to just reveal to everyone at anytime.. Kamis, Karavan, Kitins, the past the future... all of theese mysteries we all want answers to. I have some suggestions on how I want this to turn out, and what I want is probably impossible to implement. Or maybe not?
What I want is to have scenarios like this:
Im scouting PR alone, sneaking into holes and pits and ruins and stumple across a small tool or something on the ground. If you click it you "activate" some sort of quest, that (in the end) will give you hints of the tools original use and "whoops" in the end of the quest it turns out it was a material locator giving bonuses to tracking skills... used by the royal excavators of the past.
This quest should NOT be found at the same place again after I have found it!!! Thats the whole thing really, by creating lots of secret objects and stuff to discover, and making theese unique. The world should really be an interesting place to live in!
What this concretely mean is that stuff and info should "litter" the world here and there, lots of unique stuff that spawn once and then dissapear when someone finds it. It can even be crappy useless items that just has a funny story bound to it... I dont need "rewards" that gives you a bonus to foraging or make you a better fighter. The idea of discovering remnants of the past, there can be societies of explorers sharing info about the stuff they have scavenged together. Large guilds can cooperate with scientiffic personell and responsibilities in the common interest of all races.
Hehehe, this is some of my visions of Ryzom in the future!
All this stuff are things I though would be in the game in retail concerning all the things I read on the lore before I bought Ryzom. I feel that I need more of this to keep interest and keep me hooked enough to continue the same online hours I spend each day.
