Don't worry Karus, Rashan isn't the one you need to worry about.

Dear Journal,

I'll begin where I began, and I'll end where I fall. The running theme of my life I reckon. I've not been here long, not long at all. Landed safely on the island and head first into trouble. Another average day really.
It's not like I actively seek out trouble, it just tends to find it's way to me.
I suppose introducing myself to the welcoming lady... what was her name... I forget... by saying she had a beautiful figure, classical form, and an ass to die for wasn't the best way to start.
But it was the truth. I always think you can't go wrong with the truth. But then I'm an idiot sometimes. She smoothed things out with a well placed foot. Good shot she was as well. Still feel it now.
Note to self - Buy armored leggings before opening mouth next time.
Aaaanyways... yeah, so she kitted me out and got me a little work. Dappers in the hand is always a nice feeling. A very nice feeling.
I did what I do best, followed in dads foot steps and was scouting around for useful shiney things from the word go. Made a nice few Dappers from some crystals I dug up. Got my hands dirty with a few Yoba's and earned some cash skinning them as well. Not bad in all, not bad at all.
I always respected my dad. Spent his days working, honorable work. He was good with his hands, a true workman. I suppose, deep down I'd quite like to follow in his footsteps, be able to craft all I need to survive, find it all, and be able to survive without asking for anything. Helped he was handy with his fists when the time came. Years of working mining for crystals and oils and days in the field.
Grew up respecting him and what he did.
Come to think of it... that welcoming lady... looked a bit like Mum... well, maybe when she was younger. Oh... thats a scary thought. Ewww. I scare myself.
But I digress.
Yeah, so I hit the ground running, and was straight in earning Dappers. Had to buy my first set of tools and weapons, but I know, given a few weeks I'll be able to do it myself. That'll be a good day.
So, did some work for a few people, knocked off these carnivores and things that had been causing trouble on the island. Nothing special, nothing outstanding, but enough to earn me a decent wage and get off onto the main land.
So yeah, you know I mentioned about trouble finding me? Well, the beneficent and merciful Kami used their magics to get me across. Always, always freaks me out. But anyways, I land, and it throws my balance a little. I stumble. First introduction to the city is to throw myself on top of a group of guards.
They were not pleased, I can tell you now.
So, that took a little straightening out and apologising.
And now I'm here. Did my nosing around, got told to go out and find The Samsara to earn my way. Likeminded I heard 'em called. Dunno if that means they're all likeminded, or that they're like me. I hope they aint like me. One of me I reckon is more than enough for any one world I reckon.
So yeah, time to find these Samsara, or this person Samsara, no idea which it is, and get some Dappers in my hand.
Just try and remember what good ol' Mum told you Chaalan, and you'll be fine.
Honour in all things, and whatever you do you will be right.
Respect for all things that deserve it.
Truth in all words, a lie shames us all.
Faith in the Emperors judgement at all times.
And don't get caught with your pants down.
Well... the last one is mine, but I figure if she'd have seen half the things I do, Mum woulda said it to me anyways. So it's as good as.
Yeah, so I'm here, I'm looking for Mr Samsara, and I want to earn my Dappers, preferably by scouting and hunting, but the old one two, head to head to earn money wouldnt be too bad either. After all, there's nothing wrong with a good fight.
Will write again when I have some time.

Chaalan

As she lay her wary head down on the not so comfortable bed she had managed to make herself under an outcropping of root near the main gates of Pyr, Meeko turned her head to look out at the stars. She hated when the clouds hid them from her view, for somehow seeing them and knowing there was something beyond all that she knew, comforted her and helped her rest more easily each night.
She thought back on her first day in Pyr. It had been fairly educational, extremely exhausting and had yielded new friendships and induction as a cadet in one of the many Guilds of Pyr she had heard tale of back on the Island.
As a new cadet, she was supposed to clean the Guild Head Quarters, but she had managed to wriggle her way out of doing that unpleasant task her first day. As her eyes twinkled with the stars, a grin curved her lips thinking about it.
Rashan had used the last of the mop handles for some other project, she wasn't sure anymore what, but Mioette had arrived just in time to offer her a guided tour and with no mop readily available to her, she was able to smoothly side-step the unpleasantries of menial labour and slip out the door with Mioette.
The tour had been fun and educational and the added touch of danger had been much more thrilling than the other tasks of delivering packages in the city earlier in the day had been.
Her cheeks warmed slightly as she remembered how she had tried to flourish her daggers when she noticed Rashan in the cheapside market. She had wanted to impress but fumbling her dagger had not impressed him at all... in fact, it had the opposite effect she had been trying for.
With a deep sigh, she forced the image of her foolishness out of her thoughts. Saying her evening prayers to Jena, she let her eyes shut, closing out the stars in the night sky, and let herself drift off to sleep. Her last thought being a question. How would she manage to slip out of cleaning the Guild house upon the morrow?

Meeko set out of Pyr's South Gate for her first hunt since arriving in the great city. She remembered seeing several yubo when Mioette had taken her on the tour and she wanted to learn how to use her sword and dagger much better. Apparently, things were much easier back on the Island.
Well, she quickly found out the yubo back on the Island were also much easier to kill. With her luck, Pinsao happened by just as a yubo got finished cleaning her clockwork and Meeko wasn't in the friendliest of moods.

"You're doing melee in light armour?" Pinsao asked, rather matter of factly.

Not sure what else to say and not wanting her foul mood make her time in the bootcamp as a cadet any harder, Meeko answered simply, "Ummmm, yeah. I can't craft medium armour yet." And forced herself to bite back any cutting comments about not having gone to check what the merchants had, because the truth was, that was Meeko's own fault and she knew it well. Meeko was much more interesting in learning to fight well than in learning every nook and cranny of the city. The way she saw it, she'd learn the city layout and where to shop later... she'd always have time for that sort of boring stuff later. Tomorrow perhaps. Or maybe next week sometime.

Well, Pinsao left and returned shortly with not only a new set of armour, but a full set of jewelry as well! Meeko asked what she owed and when Pinsao said, "Nothing. Now, try another yubo and see how it goes", with a slight grin.

So Meeko attacked the next yubo and was surprized how well the armour protected her. Turning to thank Pinsao, she had to yell it as Pinsao was already fading from sight with a soft, but knowing laughter.

With a sigh, Meeko scolded herself for her behaviour and turning, she attacked another yubo. Soon after she found herself standing in the middle of a flock of Izam, so she began to lay waste to them as well. Some when along the way she joined forces with another, and then also with Mlogo.

Mlogo was also a cadet in the bootcamp. The other who had joined shortly before Mlogo soon went to see the trainer in the city and never returned; however, Mlogo and Meeko had a blast slaying kipee, and pretty much anything else they saw.

As the hunt was drawing to a close, Mlogo was thanking Meeko and then saying those words Meeko was ever so happy to hear, "Thanks for the favor, I owe you one."

"Ahhhh, well, can you do me a favour then?" Meeko asked.

"Sure, I'll try." came his reply. Pure music to Meeko's ears.

Quickly going into her flirtatious mode, she coo'ed softly, "Could you sweep and mop the Guild HQ floors for me. I was supposed to, but I stayed out here longer... hunting... *a slight giggle* with you." she intoned. Well, it was true, she would have left sooner had she been alone, what wasn't true is that she would have left to go do her chores, she would have found another way out of the work, but she wasn't about to tell him that!

He laughed, but she thought he would do it for her. He seemed to be a nice guy and nice guy's were a little easier to manipulate with a wink, a giggle and a little wiggle. As he turned to go, she headed off to the same root she's slept under the night before and crawling under she made herself as comfy as possible.

One day she was going to get an apartment of her own, by Jena, but she would. Not only that, but she would learn to flourish her dagger and impress Rashan with her skills. She could still see the laugher in his eyes when she'd tried to impress him that first day in Cheapside Market. She had wanted to seem dangerous so if he was a thief, he'd think twice about trying to lighten her purse and all she had managed to do was make him laugh at her ineptness. Her cheeks burned and she was glad no one could see her blushing.

What a childish fool she could be at times. She was young, but she reckoned she knew a lot more about life than anyone gave her credit for. She knew her parents wanted her to remain on the Island, but she had to help her people rebuild in Pyr. She was old enough to leave the Island, even if just that and nothing more, but old enough was old enough and she wanted to do her part.

After her evening prayers to Jena, she let her eyes slide shut, closing out the stars. She was awakened a few hours later by a loud crack of lightening.

"Rain. Lovely." Meeko muttered. She was already half soaked. Crawling out from under the root which provided very little protection, she made for the stables. As she came over the crest of the hill between her and the stables, she spotted the lights from the stables windows and began to make for that point of light when it was suddenly gone. A goari stood between her and the stables. It seemed to be just as surprized to see her as she was to see it, unfortunately, it recovered from the shock much faster.

Drawing her sword and blade, more so in a defensive manner than to attack and drive the beast away, its claw came down with a crushing blow on her left shoulder and before she could recover and deliver a return attack, she was non-chalantly shoved aside and as she saw the figure of a man take her spot before the beast and in two quick moves the beast lay dead.

The man extended a hand to help her to her feet. She put her hand in his and let him pull her upright.

"Follow me, recruit." He said, his voice slightly altered by the helm he wore, but she knew it must be Rashan. Only he could say the word recruit and make it sound both a curse and an term of endearment to a small child. A very small child. Her cheeks flushed a deep red and she obediantly followed, half grateful and half embarassed.

Once they got inside the stable, she was going to find out how he knew where she'd been sleeping in the first place, but he went right past the stables and into the city. After they entered the Guild house he took her to a room with cots lining the walls.

"This is the cadet's room." He said in a rumbling voice. "From now on, you sleep in here."

Her eyes narrowed in stubbornness but before she could get a word out of her mouth Rashan added, "I'll not have my recruits turned into fodder for goari on dark and rainy nights."

Meeko's cheeks flushed again a deep red and a couple of other cadets, who had been awakened by their entrance, chuckled at her. Before she could recover and say anything to her defence, the door had shut and he was gone. Someone handed her a towel. She lay awake on the cot until sunrise and then headed off to the bath house.

Turning to exit the bath house, Meeko was startled by the dark figure of a man in the doorway. She recognized him immediately, even if all she could see was a dark, featureless shape. Rashan.

Certain he only just arrived, she held her head high and walked to stand before him in the doorway. With a sharp salute she said, "Morning Sir."

With a grunt and a look which seemed to be measuring her worth, he gruffly handed her some orders. "Here are your orders, recruit." and he turned sharply and exited the bath house.

Hummm. He seemed a bit odd, Meeko thought to herself. Opening the envelope, she pulled out the paper inside and reading over the list of tasks, a smile began to curve her lips and a twinkle filled her eyes. There was nothing in her orders about sweeping or mopping floors or cleaning toilets! Thank Jena, she must be past that part! If not... well, she'd just claim there was nothing in her orders about it. She certianly wasn't going to ask anyone if she was supposed to continue with that chore!
