heh, I agree wholeheartly (although we are a bit out of scope of the thread, I don't think these are minor modifications)... and a big *sigh* *melancolic* since those are suggestions that have been raised a weee while ago (yeah, we will be soon near two years after release :) ):

- Add diversity to Deffensive affliction (it has 3 base spells, with little to no options, which added to mob resists, it is often reduced to 2)

- Bomb stun, anyone? :)

- Sleep is, as now, pretty useless. What you suggest for fear, I'd say use it for sleep (a feared mob who is not feared anymore, may remember who feared it and become aggressive, but sleep could do): you sleep the mob and its aggro range is reduced, it has some after link-breakdown inertia, etc.

I know, I know... thought I might bring this up again a little ;)

Yes, that sounds even better than fear... somehow forgot about sleep ;)
tsktsk :)

What really bugs me - not the latent nagging kind of bugging, but bugging me every time I watch them - are the tribal NPCs wandering through hordes of aggro mobs unscathed. My imagination can accept that for say, a scout or a single patroller, but not for a band of harvesters or warriors. It just disrupts the immersive feeling the living planet with all its mobs hunting and avoiding each other gives me. I'd really love to see them being attacked - not for spitefulness, but for realism's sake... and I think that they should have a few healers in their company ;)

On a similar note, I'd like the mobs to become more intelligent - sneaking up on me, assessing their odds against me, then deciding to attack or leave me be... and have them retreat when they are near death - come on, it's just not believable to have any mob fight to its certain death!

So, yay for mob intelligence :)

i believe there is a crafting tutorial which links off the welcomer, if not have a look at the online help it is explained there.
Except for one minor problem, in my experience at least. The welcomer offers four tutorials, one for each major area. I started my main as magic / craft / forage. Did the forage tutorial (that needs major lovin' for Fyros, in and of itself), the magic tutorial, went back for the craft and got a "kkthxbai" from the welcomer. She'd only give me two of the tutorials. If this is the case, that also needs fixing. Period.

my only suggestion would be to persevere a bit, once you get your head round some of the quirks things should make a lot more sense :)
And this is where the NPE fails. Harsh as it sounds, but it should lead the player through, all the way. Show them everything. To see a really well done player introduction, play World of Warcraft. Blizzard have that down to perfection: the art of teaching a player to play the game.

It's the same in all their games: The original Warcraft RTS's, Starcraft, Diablo. All of them are "pick up and play." The trick they use is to not try to teach the whole game in one sitting. Do it a little at a time, and then let the player play with what they've just learned. Then teach a little more. Lather, rinse and repeat.

As far as I know, NPE hasn't gone live yet, so you went through the "old" version of starter islands i believe :) .

Well, I think that's a new player experience, as opposed to a new player experience ;)

Yes, I remember that there are two general problems with the welcomer missions, one of them is the one you found. But they don't appear every time, and I think its very hard to track down.

First NPE isn't life jet. It is planned for the near future. As far as I understood it depends more or less on the planned architecture change for Ryzom-Ring.
So NPE should solve the problems you encountered.
I remember, that I could finish all parts of the welcomer mission with my first character. So the problems my occur, but they don't have to occur. And I learned all basics on the game, that were needed to play. To learn the details ask around, and exchange you experiences with other players.

Welcome to Atys :)

Thinking about it, its not just the chat. Its the entire comms system. :p
-an /afk status which blocks tells so that the recipient doesn't even get the message in the end.

-a friends list that'll only let you add online people.

-a mail system that only displays the new mail icon if you happen to receive some while your online.

-a faction chat system which you have to run in a seperate box to view all the time as it doesn't apear in user.

Also faction chat can [Bug] and you have to type something in around chat before it will work.

:D

It's a minor one.....I just started the game.

Music ingame. The quite is deafening. There is no noise ingame beside the animals and footsteps outside of combat.

Personally I much prefer it without intrusive music.
So much more immersive and atmospheric.
