mrchris wrote:Heh, consider this though, in game charging is a fun way to keep the economy going. We had quite a tongue in cheek conversation in Matis a few weeks ago about charging for escorting people through Gingo heavy areas.

This as well as charging for Res is just some of the things a proper RPing merc could do. Just because someone is RPing a merc doesnt mean they are inherantly 'evil', they just have a more capitalist take on the world.
Charging for escorts sound fair to me and a great service, because the customer has a choice.

Charging for rezzing is closer to blackmail, but as I have said before, people are free to choose how they play the game. The result of their actions will be judged on an individual basis by the other players.

Its the same as PvP, can be seen as greifing or fun. I guess it all depends on which end your on. If you are being greifed, then no fun. If you are the griefer and get a kick out of it, then its fun.

Ah, I should be clear, I'm not a merc nor do I roleplay one. I'm just pointing out that I can understand their perspective and I'd even be inclined to pay were the cost/benefit ratio reasonable.

I understand that some people charge for res, as people have mentioned it can be rp.
The problem is that online gaming for 95% of the community has nothing to do with roleplay.
So if I were to play an evil character in ryzom someone would shout at the forums and suddenly everyone would hate me? thats just ridiculous. Naming characters on forums and telling people not to res them is very bad, it should not be legal.

I have played several MUDs (textbased online rpg:s for those who dont know) and Some characters i had there would probably scream for res. just to fool some kind innocent basterd right into a heap of aggro mobs so he could loot them once they are slain. Other characters i had would hunt down people like i just mentioned. But then again, in thoose games RP were required, some people were good, some neutral and some Evil basterds.

I just wait for some clanwars to start here in ryzom, this will probably give us: Good guilds who aid people in any way, neutral guilds that doesnt want to much attention and Evil guilds who mamanipulates, lies, betrays and only think of personal gain.

Uhh well, i wasnt going to write more than i support RP charging of res. but i dont think all that charges for res is doing it for rp reasons, and that sucks. So charge if you play a gready mercenary or whatever, res for free if you are kind, or just dont answer the calls if you think its a pain to go res.

If we all go by the rules beneath, it will all be fine:

- You may always call for a res
- You should never expect a res

I think asking money for a res is an interesting thing. As Neun already stated you're free to play however you like. You will be treated accordingly. It's not much different from real life in the end.

Well said. An adition of mine though:
- Never hang out players on the forums, its lame.

I res everyone i can cause helping people will make them help me more willingly.

I hope the original post was not referring to me, Rashan. It is totally untrue to say that I was killed by those gingos last night although I did have a close call when my prospective client failed to mention them.

I did find it amusing when one person refusing to pay tried to offer a free heal later and was also killed. Poetic justice I say.

Leave it to the professionals next time and stop trying to steal my business.

Please note, in the interests of the war effort I am only restricting my policy of charging to those not fighting, who cower in the Imperial Dunes & Oflovak's Oasis.

Last night I witnessed a duel between a Fyros and a Matisian. The Fyros won and ran off. The dead Matis fellow swore and laid there sprawled out on the ground and eventually begged for a rez.

Well I must have rezzed 20 or 30 Fyros folk a day since the invasion, but this nasty foreigner and Karavan 'lover' was going to have to pay for the job. He role played back and said Matis would whoop Fyros anyday so I jad better watch it!

Then along came another Matis and rezzed him. In the course of the in charcater conversation he explained that he really did not mean any harm to Fyros and would indeed help us where he could. I therefore recanted my former hostility and welcomed him to our dusty city.

Nice but of RP all round I thought.

Sounds familiar, can't think which guild THAT would be....! I wonder if that person was a member of this guild?

I think the time is getting close when I will start checking which guild someone is in before I hit my heal key. Sad state of affairs that....
Don't automatically tar The Samsara with this brush. As Rashan has said before, his views are not always my views or the views of the Guild.

Just because someone is charging, don't assume it is us. We are a small guild in comparison to others, check before accusations are made.

Now correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe I mentioned your guild did I?

First person to mention anything about your guild was you and Rashan. :)

I happen to have rezzed quite a few Samsara recently, so I aint tarring anyone. Yet.

Are you saying you don't agree with Rashan's policy?
