Ort, very good post with some astute observations about how PvP is played out in other MMORPGs. Looks like a textbook description of PvP in Ultima Online =P

So far when mobs get picked up during PvP the reaction has been for both sides to stop fighting each other, kill the mob, then keep fighting. Mobs give DP and PK doesn't. Just a happy side note.

Hi Xcomvic

Haven't seen you in game much recently.
You're a rabid PvPer. How about filling us in on any PvP tactics that I missed in my original post?

For those new to this form of play, I pass on these observations learned in other MMOs that have included PvP. This is neither criticism , nor advocacy, but merely my observations.

RLOL! Thanks for the post! I think most saw this for what it is... An sarcastic editorial of the effects of introducing PvP into a game that isn't inherrently PvP (IMHO) or originally introduced as an open PvP game. The list is a warning of what is in store for us who either want to avoid PvP or enter into PvP late or lightly. I've only played PvP in FPS (fragfest) or in limited areas (police bots/special areas/dedicated servers). I love FPS, mindless fun until you find yourself too close to the bottom of the kill list too many times. Loved the moments you got a drop on the top player, endless frustration when he returned the favor continously for the next 5 rounds. But then you could just jump to a different server.
Ryzom isn't a FPS. You can't jump to another server. Playing King of the Hill or CTF is a fleeting victory. There will always be someone bigger and badder. In the end no one wants Ryzom to be a FPS. If they did they would be playing Counterstrike or Halo 2 or Battlefield Vietnam already. Hit that flag, grab that power up, drop those mines, toss the smoke! They're flanking us! Fallback! Sniper at 9 o'clock! $BFM$ strikes again! Your arse is mine next time, b*tch! -- Sorry, I was having a flashback.
I don't know what I feel about PvP in Ryzom. The present state doesn't seem to lend itself to PvP and many have already pointed out the pitfalls. At first I said I don't have to worry about it 'cause I don't venture into those areas yet and it isn't goal orientated (only thing gained or loss was face) and if I set my title to Homin no one would be able to tell my alligence or strength (I con the same color as any other player). But now that they have introduced camping (prized mats in the Nexus) and reports of some guilds marking their territory like a pack of ragus... I'm not finding myself on the "pro" side. I say lets wait until its fully implemented, lets see how they put the system in place... maybe it won't be as bad as some fear. Atleast until I get ganked, griefed or PK'd.

Since you have
edited your original post, you can now pull any argument you want out of thin air.
I will stick by what I wrote, and the original post read very differently.
