I have been a sysadmin, ad i know what to imagine they have to do, now its your turn, imagine yourself todo hardware upgrades on a server park.
Remind yurself that you want t do it secure, so no hurries.
And you got to test and be prepared for unexpected incidents that take some hours to correct.

To plan a hardware upgrade on the serverpark ad install a new software version on that and testing ad making sure its all in sync and error free, i think the estimated downtime is a very neat one.

Also note tha a server park isnt a home pc you can fiddle around wit and accpet some errors or beauty erors, a serverpark has to be correct in any way. no toying around like at home ;)

just imagine hwats needed to be done, think about it, 10 hours is short, and if you still think its long, take 5 computers and a advanced database-based server sftware and its users, built the hardware, OS instalatuion and serversoftware confguration includin al tha comes wit it in 10 hours

i bet you you wont make it i time!
i agree i couldnt do it in 10 hours but if i owned a comapny who employed people to do these things id obviously have more than 1 person working on it id have all the yubo's chipping in too since they like to chew cables and id have it done in the fastest time possible in record time if i could since i am providing a service and i want that service to be the best i can offer

theres 2 ways, long downtime and do it and right, or make a mirror park and swtich running from live servers to mirror servers, that to keep the service up and running, this is something a big enterprise will do so it wont lose productiontime.

However, service uptime and maintainance is done slightly different in games, dont ask me why, because when it comes down to it, its a commercial service that brings in profit, much like say a website of an enterprise.

So theres a difference, one that prevents us exp[ecting enterprise service condtions on a game service (thinking about that the economic world doesnt revolve around games, its quite understandable)

So al you can do is compare game downtimes to game downtimes, i wont call games by names as i would then flame those games, but seriously, some very very big established mmo names make Ryzom maintainance/csr team about the most excelet ones available.

I could explain this by giving some detailed examples, but lets put it this way, if you want maintance hell, become a jedi :P

hm, more whining by helbreat...

Anyways on a more serious note, I wonder if they are fixing the "no aggro mobs around Pyr" bug? (yes, its confirmed as a bug by a GM)

After reading through this Post I think people have to much time :D

After the first one who really brought some interesting info. It sort of degraded into 20+ post mostly about nothing of any use at all. This one included ;)

What is mostly of no interest is the complaining about time. Start your own topic.

Personally I think the mektoub is in response to player demands and really neat. Not that I need it. Of course there are plenty of other things that still need fixing. But they will get to them I expect.

invulnerability cancling out speed up power was confimed as a bug by a gm too but alot of people on here will still say otherwise

and yes i do whine so what? bite me

not many people would be botherd by the lack of agro round pyr anyways since its only you who dies to the goari there anyway :P maybe we should all petition for more agro outside town so the noobs have no chance of leveling at all? give them a good 14 day trial without them dying to a gingo and maybe theyll stay =/

Having a gf and kids does not automatically mean you have a life. I would certanly not want to live a life where ryzom beeing down for a few hours would be so terrible.
after 4 years together with someone a bit of free time is usually time on your own time for my gf and kids consumes 90% of my day im pretty sure i can complain about losing the other 10% of it :)

and for those of you who dont want to suck up to nevrax for the remaining 4 hours heres some alternitive fun :)
