Shadowbane (Aound for years?) DAOC and AO are all poor comparisons.
Try PvP per Everquest style. That is what would likely develop here. All the Zek servers, with the exception of Sullon Zek, are pretty civalized actually. The kind of ganking/griefing you envision appeals to a population type that doesn't seem to go fo SoR from what I have seen so far.
PvP in a guild vs format at least is considered an integral part of RP for a many RP guilds, my own included. Not for PvP's sake in itself, but as a tool to advance polictical and social agendas among different factions.
The only misgivings I have about it , is it will be so overly restricted as to become a lame duck element, while being hawked publicly as a method to increase subscriber base. Then bad things could really happen. Above all else the best thing to happen to this game is it got poor reviews from the Power Gamer mags in the community.
Anyways I look forward to it, with hopes it can be used as a proper tool for furthering roleplay in spite of the nay sayers.

Re: Terrified about what patch 2 holds in store for us.
Do the roots need to be harder for the harvesters?
I can see people picking off harvesters just to boost their PvP titles.
I think this kind of forced PVP will make a large % of people leave Ryzom.
Most of the people I know play Ryzom because it dose not have open PVP.
I will give the game some time and see how things work out, but I do not like to be forced in to PVP.

How about negative points for picking off harvestors.
Or an option to opt out of pvp in the roots if you go in neutral.
Tons of people from all levels harvest in the roots when both time and energy permits, and its not an easy task as it stands.
Prime roots will become prime owned by the high levels period, depending on how 'kind' they are on letting the lower levels harvest, but it gives them something to 'own' and 'control'
Just takes 1 level 250 warrior with 1 level 250 healer to hold off full groups.

Re: Terrified about what patch 2 holds in store for us.
While the game mechanics do make that kind of griefing possible, I don't see it happening. For one, any decent ranking system would not allow killing a pure harvesters to affect PvP ranking since that harvester would have no PvP ranking. You would think that the changes in ranking would factor in the rank of your target so that you would get a higher increase in rank from killing Archilles, but very little for killing a common grunt, and none for killing a serf.forever wrote:Do the roots need to be harder for the harvesters?

Now, that still allows people to kill just to kill but I doubt (hope) the SoR player base is going to look kindly upon individuals who acted in such a way.

Re: Terrified about what patch 2 holds in store for us.
ohhh how about color on the targeting ring, the higher on the pvp ladder you get the more the color targeting ring changes
so a pure neutral is white, and a pure pvp is black for instance.
and it would go from white to green if you have won 1 pvp battle, then move from green through the color spectrum to red then eventually to black if your top notch
this way you can target someone from a far and determine there position in the rank.
now that would rock

Re: Terrified about what patch 2 holds in store for us.
Is the PvP Arenas availible on the ATS server ? if yes id like to have the opinion of someone who tried it.
Is all the prime root open PvP or only a small section ?
Is there other open PvP area and where ?
I agree most of us dont want an open PvP game. The devs shouldnt force you to go in those area for travelling or harvesting.
I think the best way to implement Arenas would be to build new zones for PvP.

I assume that the prime roots as a whole will be open PvP.trosky wrote:Is the PvP Arenas availible on the ATS server ? if yes id like to have the opinion of someone who tried it.

There has always been an arena in matis with open pvp, but I have never really seen anyone use it other than for scheduled events.
Re: Terrified about what patch 2 holds in store for us.
Areas bordering rival factions should be contested. Prime Roots is one such area.

I think you completely skipped the point of my post.lyrah68 wrote:I meant mobs that were "special" meaning better materials than foragable. And PLAYER corpses lootable. Meaning that other players could grief you and take your gear. If there are mobs in the area, count on some of the players using less than honorable tactics...like training mobs into groups and the like.
Plus the mobs in the PVP zones should be in other zones as well, and have the EXACT same material drops AND rates in PVP as in NON pvp. In other words, the ONLY "benefit" should be the xp stated by Cerest. There should NOT be lootable PLAYER corpses, nor should there be special materials OR items dropped for turn in for Equippable gear.
And if missions exist that you HAVE to do to progress in game, and they REQUIRE the killing of other players...I am against that. On the off chance that NON pvpers get the short end of the stick. Maybe if there was on option to kill an NPC of the same faction and same level as the PVP directed...maybe.
I am still an advocate of a seperate server for all this mosh pit stuff. For the most part, as I see it, the game has the goal of clearing the goo, exploring the unknown, and gaining magic skills and technology. It seems to me that this PVP is pretty much a diversion from ALL of the game goals. Which, if you don't CARE about the game advancing at all...go for it.
But I would like to see this game advance a step or two. Which I do NOT see PVP as an advancement, but rather as a DE evolution.
And I also realize you know nothing about the true lore of the game. The ZORAI and the ZORAI ALONE are overly concerned about the GOO right now. And the Kami v. Karavan has been long since declared to be a point of friction - go read dev chats and interviews. It's one of the "pillars" of the game, aside from the "knowledge" system.
ALSO, I agree that the mobs in PvP area should be the same mobs everywhere else with same mats, I believe I said EXACTLY that. "PvP should be implemented with the EXACT same environment" Please, read my post before responding.
Now, to REMIND you that claiming PvP is a devolving point in this game and its story is 100% incorrect, as I already noted in this post and Khayne reminded you before I did. It *IS* one of the big features they wanted to have so as to provide the Kami v. Karavan with more grit.
Also, you completely misunderstood my mission idea 100% IS this a habit? You've commented on most things I said, but as if you had no clue what I really said... I'll try to say it so you can understand.
a) there are missions in the game.
b) If someone took a "you are being hunted" mission, then:
c) a mission would appear for a player of the other faction, to hunt you
That way, the person being hunted would say "okay, I want to be hunted" BEFORE another player can decide to kill him.
ALSO: If I am in Guild A, and you are in Guild B, and we are both supposed to take over the same outpost - then I think PvP SHOULD be 100% Faction v. Faction in that outpost. So that a Kami/Karavan guild could help a fellow guild of the same faction defend or attack that area.
Anyway, I highly doubt it will be implemented this way - not even sure if they can do this sort of thing, but please I beg you to read what I actually said this time - and understand it - before responding and telling me you don't like what I didn't say.
And, having read all the PvP information I can honestly say, I am EAGER to forge alliances with other pro Kami guilds to keep our area of the roots Karavan free.

Re: Terrified about what patch 2 holds in store for us.
On the subject of very highly developed players ganking lower ones for fame or any other rewards whatsoever, the simple answer is to set a level limit to it, say the opposing player has to be withing 10 levels on the low side of the spectrum to get any benefit, while leaving the high side open ended . thatats just one example.
There will always be some that gank merely for the sake of ganking, but that can be controlled at a player level, limiting the range that it pays off to PvP will severely curtail the causual ganks,
Again, I still feel a mature community can have a RP environment with sensible PvP available as a tool rather than the means.
