Yeah that epic battle picture? it might as well be bull*** cause you cant be fighting more than a couple mobs since patch 1 no matter what your level. Unless they are sucklin yubo..but they can still kill ya.

lordzren wrote:" based on the size of the world map , the cut and past style of the trees etc, the fact that towns are copies i would say for the graphics alone about 2 people on some good computers could prob do it in about 6 months and the code about another 3 to get it right. the hard bit would be the server but it is alot easyer now than it was 5 years ago. i would prob say about 5 months to get it going so about 1 and a 1/2 years for 2 people to make this game"

also asked him about how long for something like anarchy online to be made which he plays and he said it would take a team of people about 20 a long time to get that game right because of all the content and the scope of the map.

so this game looks very very much like a get rich quick game.

cost of making this game.. what about 50k total max? money they have made on it so far? a few million by now.

LOL you've got to be kidding me. You're either sadly uninformed or just plain ignorant. Probably both.

I had to reply, being a programmer and having worked in facets of the business related to running and making games/MMORPGs. Ryzom, at a glance, I'd guess would have taken a LARGE team of people years to make. Not surprisingly at all, this turns out to be the case.

Two people working full time for 6 months just might be able to get one of the old, simplistic 8-bit Nintendo games finished. And I'm talking simple, as in nothing on the scale of SMB or Megaman even...

Humm....the event that just happend was that not mass combat with hundreads of mobs. I think there were like over 1000 Antikamis in the PR we had to kill. It was tons. Just look at the screenies on the CP site link on my signature.

Yea i think think this guy never got off noob island. I respect your opinion thought. However your WRONG.

Have you tried fighting since the fixes? They can fix things like patch 1. And they did :P

Why does everyone presume that the game will remain forever unchanged after patch 1?

Because they secretly want to melt with the masses and play WoW...

Or because they havent played since patch 1 and are browsing the forum too much...

Or because they have tryed to solo a 3000 exp mob after each patch since patch 1 and died.

WoW servers are down because of the sheer and insane demand for them so I thought I'd come back here and check out Ryzom again since I had such high hopes for the latter. Logged in. Hit some mobs, harvested a bit, logged out again in disgust because it feels like a pale shadow of the richness of the world that Blizzard has created.

WoW wins hands down for polish, content, PvP system, raiding system, and most importantly the sheer FUN of it. You never ever feel the grind in WoW because there is always something to do.

Maybe someday Ryzom may come close to approaching the fun factor of WoW for me. But by that time, WoW will have undoubtedly moved beyond its current incarnation to something even better.

So what was a game-killer for me with Ryzom?

1. PATCH 1 and its consequences were totally foreseeable & Nevrax chose to disregard ATS warnings from testers. Shows a certain cluelessness on the part of the Devs that no amount of earnest PR & customer service will be able to make up for. When such a large proportion of your playerbase becomes disenfranchised over something like this, its well nigh impossible to recover from it.

2. LACK OF CONTENT. Just the starting area of ONE of the races contained more entertaining content then I saw with 2 months of Ryzom. Beyond the initial excitement of the grind & learning the stanza skills system there's no staying power. Every raid we've had thus far stands far and above anything that happened during our time in Ryzom.

3. EXTREMELY low server populations. Feels like I'm logging into a depressed midwestern goldrush town every single time. MMO's are fun because of the people. Granted this is a result of a combination of bungled release & patching but also a lack of drawing power. Beyond the grind Ryzom has nothing to offer. At least WoW has a fully implemented end game that is tons of fun.

4. LACK OF POLISH. Auction system for WoW? Check. Vendor System? Check. Mail system where you can trade items? Check. Free bank slots + option of buying more? Check. Dialog/storyline? Check. On every turn WoW has thought of every little touch. Everytime I think, "hmm... WoW would be even more awesome if they had so and so...", I find out, "Hey! It's already there!" Good job Blizzard. Ryzom feels half-baked in comparison.

That's my two cents.

Go play WoW, you wont be missed.... i played the beta and its a poor attempt at a mmorpg, no depth in gameplay at all... pick your race, your class and lvl the way you are forced too by your class... Click and kill, click and kill, get "phat loot" (ie get a Master 3 handed Sword of Destruction from a squirrel), use the poor crafting system, die and dont have any penalty so death is nothing and you never fear anything.

The game is fun if you only want positive and rewards, its a persistent world where death is unexistent, every thing is easy and brain less and character progression is mindless.

I like to be challenged, to encounter difficulties, to have a dp when i die and to use my brain when i play.
