Woah. Thanks for the glimpse into the future. I think I will go ahead and bug this. I believe we all would like (and expect) to be able to pull MORE mats of lower quality (since we are already sacrificing XP for the actions, there should be SOME tradeoff). A lvl 115 warrior can go farm lvl 50 critters for their drops all day without risk, I would think harvesters would have the same dynamic.xmancer wrote:post patch 1 & harvest fix:
so as you level, pulling the same Q will decrease your mats (as you observed)
as an example:
i pull using Q220, i get 13-15 mats dependign on how much care i needed ot apply
same prospect, same area, same mat:
i pull using Q130, and i get 6-8 mats
nice and logical that i can opt to pull lower Quality and get more, er, no wait, less quanity as a tradeoff.

Exact same thing with me.parisg wrote:I noticed similar things. I was able to pull 6xq50 (simple mainland) after the big Patch I. Last time I logged I was only able to get 5. And I thought I was getting crazy...
Re: Harvesting: Diminishing returns
An interesting trend. I had not noticed that but I am sure that I will.frostbit wrote:Findings:
At Forage 115 pulling:
Q100 mats yields 8.3 mats per node
Q90 mats yields 7.7 mats per node
Q80 mats yields 7.1 mats per node
Conclusion: The farther away from your "Skill" quality, the less you can harvest per node.
Now, who thinks this is a bug? Its certainly counter intuitive, but I can see it being "as designed" in an attempt to make folks "move on" and make room for new harvesters and crafters. After all, imagine if you could do pulls of 30x50. You could CRUSH the Q20 - Q50 markets for whatever you shose to make.
Thoughts?
I did note that your level in forage ties directly to how quickly the quality of what is extracted climbs even using identical actions and stanzas.
At forage 89 my progress was something like q14 after one cycle q25 after two and so on. This usually resulted in struggling to get much better than q80 mats unless I was lucky enough to pull a mode 1.
Once I hit forage 90 this instantly changed to being q25 on first cycle and soemthing like q44 on the second and so on. This meant usually getting my max of q100 output and even on a bad pull getting somewhere in the 90s.
I don't doubt that skill level also effects quantity and not just quality, though I agree with you that it seems counter intuitive for it to effect quantity downward rather than upward.

Re: Harvesting: Diminishing returns
I've been pulling a ton of q50 mats at level 104 recently for grinding purposes - the crafting nerfs are unacceptable, but one has to advance without going bankrupt - and my results are this.
using q100 full gentle 3 stanzas, pulling 8-10 per node depending on if I have to use careplan.
using q50 full gentle 3 stanzas, pulling 6-8 per node, depending on if I have to use careplan.
haven't noticed any difference between damage and node life vs which qual I pull with, nor has using a higher focus cost helped.
cheers.

The problem is that you hit the Quality Level Mode Change much faster on a ql50 than ql100.
More mode changes increase the chances of disadvantaged mode numbers, which result in the need for more care plans or faster depletion/retreat.
Hope that helps.
Re: Harvesting: Diminishing returns
Not in this case. Source Mode is not a factor in this discussion. It is simply a matter of how quickly the Source Timer depletes which is a function of your level as a Harvester and the Quality of material you are pulling, as can be seen from the numbers above.borg9 wrote:The problem is that you hit the Quality Level Mode Change much faster on a ql50 than ql100.

I will have to do some tests of my own just to confirm.
