While I readily agree that it is harder than it was and that you have to be careful in what opponents you choose, it isn't all THAT bad.
I am still able to kill things several levels above my skill and get 2500 exp a shot. I do have to make sure that I am fully rested between pulls and that my self heal is available. If I get an add, I am out of luck.
At 52 in melee, I am having good luck with vigilant (gah forget flyer name not izam but the other one).
When casting I think it works better to kill something that only gives 600-800 a kill so that resists don't ruin your day. On the bright side, these fights are very short so you might actually get more exp per hour.

Re: Life after the cataclysm... Aka the world after patch 1
Many Many posts do more justice for the individual reasons for dislike in post Patch1 SoR, not the least of which was the shift in balance giving more advantage to the creatures than the players.
I guess it is all about fun. You can argue thill blue in the face over what should and should not be done, but it comes down to fun.
If you are not having fun, you leave...if you are you stay. I stopped having fun when I logged in to more and more DP and could barely make a positive dent in the 458K DP each night, getting close to 0 only to get more Gingo aggro and go right back up again.
There is more to it than that, just not going to go round and round over it. I am through playing and my stress level has readjusted again.
Time will tell if NEVRAX wants us back, but doubt many will not evade the swooping talons of recently released powerhouse games.

Please try and stay on topic. There are many other threads devoted to disliking the patch, and leaving the game. This is not one of them.

A good example of experimenting with the mobs in the area.
Went to Knoll of Disent. lvl 135 tank, 160 healer, 130 nuker, and a lower level for back up healing/healing the healer.
We did the norm of starting out on ocyx(carnivore). Fights were long, I'd be getting beat before getting back to the group (them buggers hit hard) and the xp/time unit was rather slow (mage was getting alot of resists, i was missing like crazy with my pike). 3kxp a kill off from a 1star/pink (borderline on orange/red), max hitting for 990.
We decide to try some arana out(herbivore). 1-star again, same colour. Fights were much shorter, Less misses, less resists. Getting 1.5kxp a kill. Max hitting for 423.
Then we try some yelks (herbivore again). 1-star, same colour. Fights were a little longer (more misses than arana, but alot less than ocyx, same on resists). Getting 2.6kxp to start, max hit for 640~. Had a toxic cloud after the battle for 348 (kept casters out of range, and moved off as soon as it died).
We stuck to the yelks after this. Clearing everyones dp, and everyone made a level after a short while once we set up for yelks. Had we all been 150-160, the fights would have gone far quicker, and we still would have been pulling the 2.6kxp per kill.
