I share a lot of the opinions said by mikwana and lyrah 68. Noone with any sense ever said SoR was going to be THE GAME that EVERYONE will want to play. Simply, SoR appeals to a different kind of player than the upcoming releases.

My hope is that the content patches come out soon enough and stable enough that a better impression is left in the minds of the people who leave to try out the other genre.

Well for me and several other ppl, we cant wait for patch 2 and the content the game is so severely lacking and so we will be off.

From what is available so far, I like Ryzom, a lot! I would like it more though if there were something to do but fight. I am seriously considering giving Ryzom a rest for a month or two, play a little Lineage 2, check out the WoW beta, and maybe end up here if nothing strikes my fancy.

I would love to be able to support this game by leaving my account active and maybe stopping in from time to time, but at this time that is not possible. :(

The game isn't going die randomly die, guys.

Nevrax burn rate is probably on the scale of $150-200K per month with salaries, office/utils, serverfarm colo fees, outsourced support, etc -- plus whatever debt they carry from being in dev for so long. +/- Angels and VC, etc.

Anyway so say the burn is 200K, which seems reasonable to me, assuming about 20 FT employees atm + temps -- that's roughly 14,000 paying montly subscribers (and does not include box copy sales) to break even (assumptions, of course!).

I've been playing a month, and I'm player #8639. Perhaps by now that's doubled.

In any event, even if Ryzom ends up not doing well in the states, it's very popular in europe and seems the right fit to do even better. Even if my number is low and it's 20 or 25k, they'll get it -- if not here, definitely in Eurpoe.

Agreed, Europe is the key here. 3 of 4 servers are in the EU, and the lion's share of the players seem to be there too. The other two big Euro MMORPG games (AO and Eve) have developed decent-sized followings. I think European players like to support the home team, and they seem to prefer sci-fi settings instead of traditional fantasy games.

With that said, Nevrax does have a lot of work to do, for this game to have long-term appeal. I signed on for the "dynamic world", but thus far the game feels very static to me, not much different than other MMO games. I like a lot of things about the game, but it feels very beta to me. No quests, no costumes, no storyline that I can identify. I will be playing some WoW and Guild War open beta in November, and I'm hoping Nevrax will pull through with some serious patches before I look elsewhere.

Only two? ;p

DAoC has 40k players online right now, 24K in Europe, 14K in the states -- Mythic never expected to do that well overseas. That's PLAYING, not subscribers, which is at least 5x those numbers.

Ryzom getting 20K? Easy :)

The huge disadvantaged felt by trykers (mostly mat issues and the fact that all of our creature spawns are concentrated on the very little land we have) has made many people delete their tryker characters or at least stop playing them.

No doubt, DAOC has done well in Europe, but I was referring to games invented and developed in Europe. I'm sure EQ has a bunch of Euro subscribers too, but I wouldn't call it a European game.

But you have probably disproven my theory that Europeans like sci-fi :P

I pray what you say is true, I fear it is not!

The other night, I was listenting to regional chat on the NA server. On who appeared to be a beta tester was relating a recent chat he had with a GM. He said the GM was very concerned over Ryzom's success as the NA registration was only about 800, and that the european servers weren't much better.

I only hope that it is not true!

Not perfect, but then this game and those games are aimed at a slightly different market. I see this game aimed at MATURE ADULTS, not the preteen to 20's, not the ubber leeters and dood speakers. There was an influx about a week back of the leeter doods, a few rather nice. I made one a suit of armor and a sword. And a few days later, after much "this game sux Do0d" they left. I am sure a few in that age range came and stayed...my daughter is a preteen (yes I supervise her, and so far her behavior is excellent). And those that behave maturely are MORE than welcomed to come and stay as long as they wish.

HECK yeah this game will survive. I aint going NO where *stubborn stance*. If you wish to leave, I will hold the door for ya, so it don't hit ya in the fanny. I wish ya well, Bon Voyage. Hope ya find "Mr. Good Game"
Mature adults then your post is very childish. Is just a matter of opinion. Just like you said there are "l33t d00ds" i can find you people that think adult over 30 playing video games specially mmorpg is a cry for help to get back into real society.
