Hiya Omnio, Malice :)

i don't think you want to let Malice42 into Ryzom, your world will turn to crap and everyone will end up hating each other :P

I'm playing this atm, trying to get a feel so if you want you can shoot me a tell in AO for specific questions, or send us an email.

In this game I think it would be very appropriate considering some of the history of the races. But I don't think there are pvp areas, all pvp is dueling or arena.

::grins:: You need to go back and re-read my last post, Omnio. A lot of those questions are already answered there.

Yes, specific parts of your body can take damage, and taking too much damage to a specific part will result in various side effects. Head - stuns. Bad, bad for a spellcaster. Arms - combat skill reduction I think. Legs - movement reduction I think. Mostly what I notice are those headshots. The problem with magic is that once something has closed to melee with you, you have zero defense no matter what your skill in Fight. Your armor and skill go straight out the window, so I get knocked out of my casting quite often. Using skills won't affect your chance to hit unless it says so, though it will often cost you Stamina.

You do NOT control your own defense. That is based on your armor and Fight skill level relative to your opponents. Shields help, but I have no experience with using one (I've never liked shields).

Is it easy to die? Uhhh...that depends on how paranoid you are and whether you're supposed to be in the area you're in. I find death to be relative easy to avoid if you're careful. When you die, you have a minute or two (this may get longer, I don't know yet) with which you can choose a respawn point (based on where you've been). If someone casts a Heal spell on you while you've fallen, you will revive. I don't know the specifics on that part, as it's never happened to me. If I die, I respawn. I am NOT a group player by any stretch of the imagination if I can help it. Upon respawn, you will have acquired a Death Penalty (DP) which is basically an experience pool you have to fill before you can gain experience in any other skill. Otherwise, everything is intact. You don't need to go find your corpse or any other such nonsense. You are at full power from the moment you respawn, so if you're careful you could possibly get vengeance for that death.

As I haven't hit the mainland yet (I'm still on the newbie island, though I'll be leaving shortly), I am unaware of the convolutions of PvP. It's never been a particularly important factor to me as a veteran of a world in which PvP is accessible to anyone at any time. You just have to be prepared for the consequences. Much like reality, really.

On another note, the different races aren't really on the best of terms, especially we Zorai. We're a bunch of recluses, and don't get along with everyone else too well. It's part of the reason we are the chosen of the Kami. The Fyros aren't well liked at all by a lot of people, since they were the ones who first released the Kitin on our peoples and destroyed the civilizations we had back at that time.

I've been playing AO for 2 years and as Shazzy said you can not compare 2 games. Ryzom is a wonderful game not only because of its graphics/gameplay but because it has a very unique 'feeling'. A lot of people are moving from AO basicly because the game is not supported any longer as it used to and turned to be a cash cow for the company's future projects.

P.S. I was silly enough to buy alien invasion expansion pack, I wish there was a mean to get my money back :(
