Hmm I never really thought of Ryzom as a PvP game. Must be because it wasn't in the beginning. To me it's always been just a second home full of friends.

Well, when I bought the game on release, I was well mimpressed with the whole OP design, guilds were supposed to fight over them nd the OPs would have special guild trainer NPC's for the holding guild, to teach special skills.

I think from the time of release, until the OP's were introduced, was about 2 years, I think either people forgot about the advertised utility of OP's, or just didnt care for PvP, as over that period of time, both factions had kind of intermingled and didnt have any desire to fight against friends, just because of some religious divide.

So I think anyone that joined back in 04, would only have percieved an MMO with a great community and awesome co-operation between factions, as opposed to eg WoW, where factions are strictly seperated, then OP's were introduced and instead of GvG warfare to obtain them, they became a free for all and really put a spanner in the works for the community IMO.

My own perception of OP's and PvP now, is that its just something to do, to pass the time between boss hunts. :)

Would end alt guilds with 1 keeper holding outposts for their master guilds, inactive guilds would automatically loose their outposts over time too.
Thanks jwenting, :) I cant check the manual, because its buried in the attic and I'm just going on how I remembered it from back then, so I defer to your knowledge on the matter :)

But I do agree in principle with what I have quoted above from your post, guilds that are not strong enough to take and hold an OP, should not have one, which would do away with one man guilds holding OP's in perpetuity, or guilds that have left, yet their "friends" feel beholden to defend their OP's for them, against up and coming guilds, preventing these new guilds from getting a foot on the OP ladder, or new guilds having to go cap in hand to a "consortium" of guilds, to ask can they have "X" or "Y" OP.

All of those things in my opinion have created a stagnancy in Ryzom (well on Arispotle), that has cost the game many players and guilds.
