I'd estimate about 80% of the mithra population was male too. I'm pretty tempted to role a female toon in Ryzom myself just so I could admire the thong city armor.
LOL...
Actually, in FFXI, I was on Pandemonium. I started playing when the NA PC release came out.. played for about 4.5 months and took a break, then came back for another 4.5 months before burning out for good, it seems. Shame, too.. I had a darn nicely equipped Mithra Samurai there.

As for playing a female char.. well, on FFXI, you didn't really have a choice if you wanted to play Mithra, that's all there were was female :-) . As for in general... I don't remember, honestly, what initially started me playing a female char.. Actually.. yes I do. It was Neverwinter Nights - the male characters ran like they had something stuck up their butts and I couldn't handle playing them like that.. and thus, a female Elven Warrior named Shanree was born (actually, first came an Elven female Cleric named Perrina). I enjoyed playing that char so much that I continued it on with subsequent RPGs. And there you have it.. fascinating, eh? Okay, I know... it's not.

Yeah, they are alot of fun to play, in alot of ways, though.. For one thing, the whole kick-butt male warrior type is too cliche', and people never (or rarely) suspect that a female character could come up and wipe the floor with them :-) .
