WRONG. Oh how ignorant and weak people can be...
The question is who's being arrogant, though. See, for me the kitins are merely a minor annoyance. I'll hit speed+mpa to run past them, and do my digging. There are some safe/semi-safe places left, so that's no issue. If I do get aggro while digging, I can still run, and even in case they kill me, so what. Digging yields no xp anyway, and DP is gone in 10 mins. Lastly, if Loria really gets too annoying, I'll just dig in Wastelands.
Now it looks a LOT different if you only have speed-2 and mpa-2 (or maybe not even those) and 1200-1500 HP, and if you're trying to get your non-master dig skill up. Maybe you don't have 60 fame to buy PR teleports either. Now in that case, you're screwed, as you will die every time and you'll spend your day digging off DP which is neither fun nor immersive, no matter how often you are told "you know, life on Atys is tough". The net result for you is that you're getting nowhere while the veteran players have all the fun.
Dying for doing something stupid is something most people will live with and accept. Dying (several times) because you're being "punished" even though you didn't do anything wrong is something that doesn't go down nearly as good. Not getting anywhere is a killer.
Groups of 2 or 3 lvl 75 or higher can take out some kitin in the lvl 100 areas.
They might, if they are lucky, but they'll work off DP most of the time anyway. On top of that, these players are being punished by excessively hard mobs that give very little xp compared to what they could be hunting otherwise. Don't tell me there's no difference in killing a furious KotD (60-80% melee resistance, many HP, hard hitting, social) compared to a parched stinga or a gruff bodoc, all of which will be 3000 xp to those level 75s, but the KotD being by far the most painful, and the only ones not dropping anything you can use to get your level 75 craft up.
Is the amount of xp important? Well, maybe not to you and me, but it may look much different for someone who sees that everyone except themselves is 250, and they just can't get forward.
Treks are still being held, or at least being attempted.
Hahaha yes :) I've wiped with a group of 4 (two multi-250 and two ~210s) trying to trek the latter across the Fount (Fount-BB-ToT). Thanks to the excessive aggressiveness of KotD, their huge numbers, and the broken taunt, it is not hard at all to pull 3 groups in one go. Now, this works ok the first time while auras are lasting, but the seond time, the outlook is grim. In the end, we did this trek with the help of another two people (250), which worked ok... but seriously, this is just ridiculous for a trek that you could previously run solo if your tourist was able to give you a few heals every now and then. How is a group of level 150s supposed to do this? Basically, "exploring" is non-existent for them, and getting to any other area is reduced to "find a big group of 250s, follow close, don't look left or right, and hope for the best". Trekking used to be one of the most fun activities in game, once upon a time. I used to drop anything to get on a trek. Now, they're annoying, not fun. Trekking now means having to cut a trench through aggro for every 10 meters you walk, rather than sneaking around, enjoying the landscape, and with some luck hitting a few nameds on the way.
The exact same complaints came up the first time they flipped the switch for the KoTD event.
Confucius said "Study the past if you would define the future.". :)
But seriously, I hope that it ends before all the newbies are gone forever. See, if you make events that have such a gross impact on everyone and that cater only the 25 most hardcore cracks in the community, then in the end, those 25 people may be what you'll have left as subscribers. It's not like Ryzom hasn't gone bankrupt before, and I would hate to see it happen a third time.

Instead of complaining since yesterday about how the life is hard with all this kitins in low level zone, I suggest you to check the status on Aniro :

Kitin left around the Fyros camp; Northlake (1) : 0%
Kitin left around the Tryker camp; Witchy Coves (1) : 0%
Kitin left around the Zorai camp; Sai-Shun (1) : 0%
Kitin left around the Matis camp; The Rising (1) : 89%

The second part of this event is not like the last invasion. It's a LOT easier. The actual dev team have listen to the old complaints.
Your Kitins on Arispotle will not last long with a minimum effort, but you have to do missions. Only missions will kill all this kitins.

Arispotle had finished the first tower long before Aniro so I suggest you to stop whining and all kitins in low level zones will be eradicated before 1 or 2 days.

I find it strange how a level 65 melee can be leveling in Maiden Grove if it is impossible to do any leveling at all with all the kitin around (and lvl 65 melee is this guys highest skill). As I stated in my post, this event will be over soon, so all can go back to their routine, whatever that may be.

I feel pretty safe in saying not all new players simply have NOTHING at all to do in the "safe" areas. Maybe getting little xp for foraging, but what about leveling jewels, amps, 1 or 2 hand weapons, the 3 types of armors? If someone does not feel like venturing out of the level 50 areas, there is still plenty to do for skill points, maybe not their first choice, but it is something to do that will benefit them later (example: learing how materials affect each other, whether or not using all the same grade of materials is the best option or if using a few pieces of fine or choice yield a better result, etc). There are always options. if one cares to look.

If a new arrival does not feel like venturing out of the safe areas, send me a tell and I will craft you a gun and ammo to level ranged skills, or heal out of team so you can level afflictions or elemental magic or melee.... There are things to do if you don't want to or can't participate in the kitin event, but wouldn't it be nice to have a trophy (kitin hunter title) or two before you reach level 100?

And the "25 hardcore cracks" you mention.... I guess you consider me one of them.. Thank you :)

they did it in about 50min. at 20GMT it still readed 94%(ish), 46min later it was 0%. supplies might have something to do with this.

yes it is if there is packages waiting for delivery. unfortunately higher camps dont, so digging is still needed and those areas are swarmed with KotD's and normal aggro.

delivery % on supplies counter is bit better tho. at first day it was 1.5%, then it was lowered to 1%, now it' 2% again.

unfortunately Aniro and Leanon both had too many people working on the constructions, so devs shot both knees on runners to slow them down.

all the construction data is available from my tower script when use use ?csv url parameter

Well, I had it all wrong. I thought to reduce the Kitin percentage, we had to complete the new missions that showed up about going to the different posts and killing the Kitin and deliver the report and tokens to the new camps.

So back to delivering packages.

Be careful, that was only because of an event. Without this event, Aniro won't have any area under 80%.
Next season ? Just adjust the shardid ! (+/- 3min)

Code: Select all

date --date `wget -q -O - "http://atys.ryzom.com/api/time.php?shardid=ani&format=xml" | sed "s/></>\n</g" | grep -e "day_of_season" -e "time_of_day" | sed "s/<day_of_season>/\(89-/" | sed "s/<time_of_day>/\(23-/g" | sed "s/<\/day_of_season>/\)\*72/" | sed "s/<\/time_of_day>/\)\*3/" | bc | tr "\n" "+" | sed "s/\+$/\n\"min\"\n/" | bc | tr -d "\n"`

A player initiated & driven event followed by the event team. I've missed it so I can't talk about it. But every community has the power to do the same...

...the power of roleplay on Ryzom.
