Ideas for not leaving the game after being lvl 250 for a while ?

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Should there be something else after lvl 250 besides helping others ?

I mean take a look at the LotRO patch list: http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Release/All
Well LOTRO has a pretty unique source material to work from, with regard to the game itself and all they have added to it since release ..... you still cant polish a turd.

I would prefer to count varynx spots .... twice, than play LOTRO tbh :) (yes, I have played it, for the year Ry was down along with WoW).

  • Silan, which is only for new characters.
  • NPC bosses, good in essence but far too small to really add something significant to the world (now maybe if they'd revamped all bosses like that...)
  • Wheel, good in essence but far, far, faaaar too small to make enough difference.
  • The Ring, which does qualify as a really new tool with a lot of uses, only this tool is so fragile you can hardly do anything with it without breaking it. :(
Ah yes, I had forgot to mention the Ring. Unfortunately that pretty much encapsulates the essence of it. Something that could of been truely great, but failed miserably. Also, I don't think it's the kind of thing most of us are really dieing for. (ie: Mainstream content, truly integrated on Atys.)

I consider Silan and the NPC bosses as tweaks as well though, again good ideas, but poorly implimented and riddled with bugs.

And we wont mention the Wheel >.>

Yeah, I know. It's just an example of the amount of things that can be accomplished in half the time we've been waiting. =)

I think we all agree now (even foolish me, the noob) that people who have long since mastered the skills they want to master, and have used and reused the existing content and mechanics ad nauseum, deserve some new toys.

Since we can't do much with that ourselves, other than add to the decades long suggestion list already available, how about if some of you elder stateshomins give us some wisdom?

Given what we have in the game right now, what advice would you give to someone who is on the brink of mastering a few skills for the first time? How have you managed to entertain yourself enough to still be here? What pitfalls should be avoided?

iphdrunk wrote:But I am somehow saddened that, while reading, there is a recurring pattern: everytime that someonme raises a question which (indirectly) targets old timers and their quest for continuous entertainment, our (valid, I pray!) concerns are dismissed, apparently as if we were like bored children that are unable to find ways to entertain themselves. Fortunately the original poster mentioned "add, develop or change", iirc

To suggest (again and again) that if you are bored is entirely your own fault, misses the point. All things considered, we know the issues involved in the proper development of the game, and this is why we wait. But getting the "if you are bored is time to move on" "if you are bored you are lazy" canned answer is as frustrating to me as the remark "this game needs new content for oldies" is to you.
Thank you for understanding.

I knew by posting this I would get the usual response by old timers. But I did it anyway hoping someone would read between the lines and understand what I am aiming at.

I am not even lvl 100 and do not fear the day I will reach lvl 250.

My question is not aimed at old timers (sounds like labelling a player as Grand'pa !). But more at players still in their early levels that do not see the game on the same eye as old timers. Old times will stay with the game no matter what. But the problem is that we have to prepare for the rest of the players. A lot of them will simply drop out once they reach lvl 250 (probably in less then 6 month with everyone levelling them up so quickly). This will not be paid by old timers but by the rest of the players.

Although I would love to help new players in every way I can, I do fear that by leveling them too quickly they will hit the lvl 250 and simply drop out. So what do we do in the mean time to prevent this ?

Refuse all the levelling up requests by new players and by this, changing the reputation of the community to a negative way ?

My way of thinking is the other way around. If we cannot prevent quick levelling up to 250, then what can we do to keep those eager players once they reached it ? By we, I do not mean the community only, I also mean the Dev team. We cannot change the maxed out level to a higher one because there are no enemies higher then this (other then players).

So this thread is to invite brainstorming but without the usual response. Stop thinking in the same way. Put yourselves in the shoes of the other players. Sure they will be players that will simply bored because they levelled up too quickly. But including them, what can be done to keep all players (no matter who they are and how they got there) once they reached level 250 ?

Now I hope I made myself clear on the purpose of this thread.

Seriously? :p

...False...

On the subject of helping...
I think our new players are just drown in "help"
Dapper, free equipment, cats, easy levels, the "best" hunt and dig locations...
I can't seem to find a newbie who's not also getting help from three people aside from me, and you just know that's too much. It ruins the experience and probably creates the very "250 then leave" mentality we're all trying to get around.

You want people to stay in the game longer?
Don't kit out new players with tons of free stuff. Get them just the necessities, and it wouldn't hurt to charge them a little.
Don't hand-hold them through the most easy/efficient ways to level. Teach them just enough to survive.

Of course I offer this in vain.
It would never happen on a wide scale. Everyone wants the newbies in their guilds, so it'll always be an arms race to see who can dump the most "help" on new players to win the enrollment prize.

Maybe I'll move back to Atys when we have so many new players they can't possibly all be drown.

This is a good topic As is Ryzom is a bit limited in its todo options for any level imo. Its kinda funny since when it first came out the devs were all about a 'no grind' game, but thats about all ryzom is atm except for outpost battles and sight-seeing trips i suppose. I'm still happy playing it though every now and then, and still have no lvl 250 skills... somehow  :D

theres alot that could be done someone already pointed out Lotr, but i agree that game has a much deeper story thats been around for a long time and is garranteed players staying just because of that. (i actually stopped because the updates to it were too frequently huge, don't want to download a game constantly i want to play it ;) ) Eve would be a better example i think, they're constantly adding _fresh_ content that furthers the storyline at the same time as helping high lvl industrialists, harvesters, and pve/pvp players play a deeper, subtler, and more exciting game.

How true; it seems that new players are so scarce, and materials/cats so superfluous, that a new arrival may find himself completely overwhelmed. And yet this remains such a feedback cycle that it really could alter these players' Ryzom experience and, ultimately, the eventual playerbase after they grind away their life on Atys.

Anyway, I didn't see kitin invasions mentioned in this thread yet. I mean it's only been advertised for how many years now, and yet the engine is still said to be broken... argh!

What I'd love to see in Ryzom is the development of long-term projects that require a massive amount of effort and upkeep. As homins, we are supposed to be rebuilding our civilizations and protecting them from a dangerous world. There are all sorts of great examples in this thread that would help us realize that goal.

I find it hard to believe you call this a "turd"
Then again, if you really do think so - I am glad I am there and you are here :D To claim that Ryzom is way better makes no sense IF we consider the history of both games
