Re: Ptolmea Raises an Eyebrow
I think its a little unfair to say that all MMOs are the same.
LoTRO puts out a new 'Book' (free expansion) every other month or so. Each book advances the main storyline a fair bit, as well as adding lots of other content, and often large new areas. It is perhaps the best example to date of what *can* be done, regarding content updating.
I would dearly love to see Ryzom recieve the same level of attention - it has virtually no 'content' (in the usual interpretation of the word) and is very unpolished in comparison. And this point is where lots of people stop, and so leave saying that Ryzom could be great if... which is a pity. Because there is much more to this.
In some ways Ryzom has more content than any other MMO out there. If you learn from scratch it will take you a very long time to understand all there is to know about the crafting system (and even with help you will still take a long time to learn even the reletively commonly known stuff). Mapping out the vast expanses of Prime Roots, and learning the seasons and weathers for the materials is a work of years.
Do you know which aim stanza to use for each type of creature?
Do you know which spell is best to use in every situation?
Can you use the affliction skills to solo same level or higher aggro without taking a single hit?
I could go on and on. The thing is that most of Ryzom's content is not content with definitive starts and ends. Lots of it won't get you any fancy titles, or new stanzas. There are few quests and no instances to run through. This does not mean that there is no content.
Having said all that, Ryzom has been suffering from a lack of developer time investment, and sadly this needs to change if the game is to survive long-term. Our new owners don't seem to be the most chatty of people (which is a shame, really) so we will have to just wait and see if this time, Ryzom finally gets the attention it deserves.
For now I am happy scratching away peacefully at the surface of Atys, until called to war to defend the planet from the harmful drills of Jena.

Re: Ptolmea Raises an Eyebrow
On universe chat somebody said he (or she) hoped next thing that would be made were lvl 300 areas, to explore or to hunt...
With the ring tool, they could even pick a couple of players and ask if they would like to make such areas, and when they are finished, polish those areas a bit, and voila, new areas to be hunted and to be explored...
I think there would be quite some players wanting to help with that. (I know I would)
