@Xtarsia

*cringes a little* I get the feeling that either I am not able to make myself clear, or people just fire away without realy reading my posts.
But what you described is almost exactly what I wanted.
The only Problem is, that Event-Staff can not be forced to be Online 24/7 or to work in shifts to realy realize such things. As wonderfull as that would be.

I´m all for immersion and a giant ! above a Mission givers head is out of the question, of course, but I don´t realy see the problem with walking up to say, the Captain of the City-Watch and ask him: "Hey, you´ve got something to do for me?"
Or reading a Signpost saying "Help needed." Or whatever...

Me and others "wishing for Quests" as you state is not wishing for more grind and more boredom, it was intended as a collection of Ideas, like yours, that would help to keep Ryzom what it is AND make it more attractive to new and old players.

So, please before you condecsent upon someon again, read what was the original intention and don´t draw conclusions to fast. Thank you.

@iceaxe68
Thats what we meant. :) Even a City-Watch Captain could have a stroll sometimes ;)

@eriu3
WoW-Comparrisons on the side, the Ideas are OK. If the Ring would have worked as intended and more people would have used it, we would surely have such "Raids". It was possible to limit it to certain levels. Or Groups for that matter.
The Ring is still a brilliant Idea and a most comfortable tool for those of us who do not have such a strong grasp of Programming as others.
*glance to Kaetemi*
Some complained about it because it would not let them programm their own contend into it. Or it was not allowed to use what they found in the code...
Well, I guess it was not allowed for a reason. Maybe the new owners won´t care for whatever reason Nevrax had back then (and if you think a bit you can very much guess at the exact reason) and you will be able to put in whatever you found in the depth of the code, but for now The Ring sadly doesn´t work at all and we are limited to our imaginations and suggestions to make a better Game for everyone.
Not just for those who want "more rewards", or know more programming, or want no grind at all.

A compromise is needed, thats what this Thread was for IMHO.
There´ll never be a way to please every sort of player out there, thats a fact.
But there must be some sort of compromise in the way Missions are presented to at least give us more meaning InGame and through it more Fun.

Sorry if i came across a little sharp, i think i started going of on a tangent after the first sentence :p I wouldn't expect 24/7 online time from events managers either, just planning > execute > let it run > plan next event, even allowing for concurrent events ect. Having it as a full time job wouldn't be that bad either, 4-5 ppl could manage it (for all servers)

As for the ring, i REALLY wish it was back up. Id show you a preview of the rather huge scenario id started working on, and would love to work on some more.. However testing it proved pointless due to a crippling bug in the AI :(

Though it was far from finished.. (maybe 1% complete..)

Most of my time at the moment is spent playing WoW, which imo should not be compared to ryzom at all, it is a totally different style of game, and quite fun in its own way, (if you can learn to ignore the mass populace of retards that always swarm to any successful MOG)

PS CSR's/Admins ect Put the ring back it was not the source of any 'problems' as such problems exist within the core server, not the ring.. :(

2% parry bonus? thats ALL? :p
ration the army.. we have to eat eyes and pelvises in the army? ew....

apart from that.. i think this mission rocks :p though we gotta be careful not to get too 'grindy' - missions like this should be take-able only once, and at that help further a storyline...
euhm...i hope you weren't being serious...This was a small satire/irony of what i DO NOT want in a mission ;) aka:
-"save the world blablabla rubbish" *yawn*
-OOC text (press J to see mission window etc. for example)
-enumeration of beasts to kill (unless necessary but i find it so booooooooooooooooooriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing...and not very IC)
-phat lewt (ok..my example wasnt very phat i admit)..especially when ryzom has such an excellent craft system.

lol no i was being deadly serious!

maybe only because i was seeing where this was leading? to me any epic story line has to start with menial tasks. and if the army goes hungry, the kitin won't! i would love to know that i contributed to the civilization as a whole for its survival - even if that meant doing menial chores (until i was a higher level and actually able to fight! thus the axe to get me out there and practice practice practice)

if we knew there was going to be an invasion in three weeks and depending on how much we prepared in those weeks - the varying number of 'guards' / NPC soldiers - or maybe stat boosts for defenders of the city - would be based on how much we did the stupid stuff - making the end result vary big time!

-- as an example, the temple wars i was way too a noob to do anything useful, so i was happy to help CP for older players who could actually dig the good stuff!

edit - as for the OOC text, i think as old farts we don't need and defo don't want that kind of stuff. but for a little people - that stuff is completly necessary! running around silan a lot, i always hear of people who have trouble figuring out what they have to do because it wasn't clear enough (obviously they didnt read...) but if what was said isn't clear enough, maybe being even MORE straightforward for the young'uns is a good idea? ... if you have to tell a level 120 melee to press 'j' to check his journal - something is wrong :p

Yes, but there are vastly better ways to provide such information than roughly inserting it into a dialogue being spoken by a character. :) For example, a simple solution would be to put the OOC stuff in brackets/parentheses. A somewhat more elaborate solution might be to have some sort of tooltip that appears when you hover your cursor over a highlighted word/phrase.

(hopefully it's not been said, but ive not enough time to read every post)

What would have been nice is 2 things.

1- making fame actually worth something a bit more (IE improving buying/selling power. Wandering NPC's who's race/faciton you have fame more will assist you. area's only avaible (with mission givers/special trainers etc) when you have a certian racial fame level inside certian cities. etc etc)

2 - giving fame for helping in events.

Some of the Silan tutorial missions have IC text from the NPC, then an OOC window that pops up with detailed explanation of the mechanics. They look entirely different, so there is no confusion about IC or OOC. It works well for tutorials, although I wonder if people actually read the things...

Still, I learn new stuff about the game all the time, including mechanics. There's too much to absorb in just a few days or even a few weeks, even for "not stupid" people. I hope I keep learning for a long time to come.

EDIT: Context sensitive help in the various windows... that would be cool.

problems with the out-of-speech window things, they have so much info in them and a new player wants to just get started! how many people sit and read the whole thing? i'm sure some do but many don't. would be nice if there was a 'tooltip' like kat said.

i think though that a 'welcomer npc' should be allowed to give you that transition into the new world. for example - ONLY the welcomer npc says things like 'check your mission window!' etc. other npcs will just assume you know what your doing (or how to find out on your own!)

I really love this kind of idea. It would give me the feeling that I'm doing something for the good of everyone, not just saving my own... ;) Missions/events of this sort help shape the outcome of Atys giving some meaning to grind.

This is so true. I personally would like to port to PR one day and be told that I haven't been very faithful recently and won't be able to buy a TP until I show some devotion. I wouldn't mind if my fame fell at a given rate over in game time, causing me to show love for my deity or suffer the consequences.

Now that is a cool Idea! :)
QFE!

Although, I can imagine some peeps complaing about being "forced" in to missions by that mechanism...
Anyway IMHO the Idea is great!
