I have spent the best part of my life working for an international investment bank; the process of aquiring struggling companies; performing the legally minimal in operation for a pre-defined period (usually 1 year); then letting it crash an burn for the sole purpose of gaining such invaulable assets like buisness-model, trading licenses; etc etc is common practice.

Applying this to GF - Ryzom is a very good 3D MMO engine; the hardpart of any game is the foundations - anyone can make 3D models, textures, audio, write quests, etc - but the basic engine and mechanics are there.

Whatever the previous arrangement was; GF clearly had to keep Nexrax employees/developers for a duration; and with that comes tainted and tunnel vision approaches to the future - a big risk indeed.

By GF completing their legal obligations; they can now use this 3D MMO Engine / mechanics for whatever thet want.

Upgrade Metin2, make Metin3? or start afresh?

OR MAYBE - it isnt so sinister; just maybe they realised so many bandages have been applied that needed wipe the slate clean... and Ryzom will be relaunched 6-12 months from now; essentially the same games but with fundamental changes that allow greater flexibility and a more modular approach to adapting to the clients needs...

MAYBE?

If it is sinister; then GF is on my list of companies to avoid on principal :P

CCP, yes. Or ryzom.org.

Payments ceased August 27, or so I read... Could be the server is just no longer paid for, and will be left in drowsy mode for three weeks. :(

Well when GF first took over they said they would be moving the hosting to Germany because they could get a cheaper hosting package there from somebody. As I understand it hosting was based there and development continued on in Paris. One would think the game should be able to run as normal for as long as the hosting was paid for unless they were BSing us.

But it seems doing nothing with the game is as bad as killing it to some of us Boroshi.

They are not the developers of Metin2, just the publisher.

Kinda discovered that late last week...... but it all makes sense now....
They "GF Germany" have ZERO skills in thick-client 3D MMO's;

They "GF France / Nevrax" were probaby not given enough resources / workable conditions to fix what they do know how; even if they wanted to...

One lot of speculation has now ended; please GF, have the decentcy to give complete closure.....

How did things go so horribly wrong.. and why has it been left to the 11th hour to tell us???

:::FREE RYZOM:::

Looks like they´re already talking to the liquidator...at least someone who cares about the game! ;)

Btw. let´s not demonize GF for what they are, a profit-seeking company that made a mistake by acquiring Nevrax, no more, no less! ;)
