Maybe you can first bring them on that thread :)

Then on Klient in case of some install issues, and then we can maybe organise a welcome event on Silan :)

And again, for the record (even tho I know you agree with me Valda), if there is ONE game out there that is free of hackers, free of cheaters and booters... Then it as to be Ryzom :)

Hmhm... I think those guys coudn´t see the forest for the trees...
my guess is they are so used to official boards being flodded with spammers, flamewars and complaints about Bugs, that they took one look at whatever thread, saw someting that looked like a flame or a rant about whatever bug there might be and took it for face value.
Sad but so it seems. *sigh* :(

And yes, in the last few weeks since that unfortunate Patch 365 (if I remember correctly) there were enough issues.
(Just like you I haven´t had a problem with the game until then)
But, to take this as an excuse to say the Game was full of botters and riddeld with bugs... especially if they run it on Vista, for wich it wasn´t conceived in the first place, is very naive. Sorry to say.

Btw. how come People always expect a Game that was build long before Vista was even annouced to the public, to function flawlessly on it?
Why doesn´t anyone ask Microsoft to do something about that?
Many Games don´t run smoothely on Vista, hell there are at the moment just about three Games out that take full advantage of DirectX 10.
So how the hell do people expect "older" Games, not to speak of certain well known other programs, to run without trouble under Vista????
If Vista itself does not run smoothely yet.
I don´t get it?

(No flame intended!!!)

And allow me one question.
Do they and you realy think Grinding is all the fun you can get from any Game? Oo

If so, then well... I frankly don´t get that too.
I hope I just missread something.

fiach wrote:They did try the game, but I guess I didn't give that impression in my post and I apologise, I had mentioned it in another thread and never though to repeat it in this one.

They tried it but some couldn't get it to work on Vista, others found Silan to be annoying and too much information, they just wanted to grind and Silan would only last a few hours for them (I think its level 21 and then stop?), but the forums made them feel it wasn't the game for them.

I would argue one point with you though G, The forum is one of the first ports of call for a prospective gamer, if the forum says the game is unfinished after two years, is full of bugs, hackers and bots and the fourm is full of bickering, then why would the bother perservering with such a game, if the trial will only last a few hours in essence, for them.
Uhm.. Ok, if they tried the game and didn't liked it, nothing to say. I'm sorry.

I agree with you that, for experienced players the trial is too short.

When I rolled my alt there i reached 21 in few hours (but, ofc, i already know the game) so it's possible they finished everything very fast.

I still don't think it's a good idea being impressed by anything about the forums: you don't know the game, nor the people that are posting and such, so it's always better to look at it inside then outside.

Anyway it's possible that my opinion is formed considering that i always judge a game playing in solo, first, so i consider always myself and the environment to see if i like the game or not. Probably this is unusual.

Hi mate, I edited a bit out there so as not to confuse the issue :)

I actualy agree that your forest analogy is correct, thats what happened. :)

Two couldn't get it to run on Vista, so two others, who would team with them elected not to bother, they wont play a MMO without each other.

When I say "grind", I dont mean it in a pejorative sense, I mean, using that context, a game that has no quests. In essence, they aren't to fussed if the game has quests or not, they are happy to grind their gameplay as long as it is in a pleasent environment, in good company. :)

Thanks all for the positive feedback :)

Well, you have a good point there Kat, I am due a new PC, which means that until Vista is game-friendly I cant play Stalker/Bioshok or any of that other creamy gaming goodness that is being released, because I wont buy it, until Vista is sorted :(

Wonder how many MMOs have they tried?
And how many games forums have they read?

Now the technical thing is not obvious, the community in Ryzom is a spoiled one compared, let's say with Sony Ent. customers. We complain about say team bug, they complaining about a week around NYE of closed servers (without warning, nor ETA), we complain about landmarks, they complain about full game maps bugged, where the character gets stuck for days (nobody coming to take him out), we complain about a crash, they complain about a whole player house filled with 2 years loots and crafted items lost.
Hard to realize with untrained eye what is bad in Ryzom compared to other games.

Now we have to accept that people seldom (never) write on the forums to congratulate devs for fixing something and often write on the forums to point flaws in the game. I would say one could see on the forums some of the maturity of the player base who is at times congratulating the devs team for succeeding to fix this or that. Normally there aren't any congratulations or thanks, people consider that they give money for this and only bugs are marked, never fixes.

Pvp might be disbalanced in Ryzom, and people complain over it, but more often one can notice full suggestions, plans of action, posts where people try to find ways to fix that. In a normal healthy pvp life game, you'll see much less of this and a lot (LOT) more whining, moaning, gloating violent attacks that's always a minority and the mass player base disregards usually.

We have moved to Ryzom a year and a half ago _with_ guild. All of us at least a MMO old (people who played for at least a year a MMO). We have all known what forums mean in this environment, forums then played a very little role in choosing. The main choice were our scouts actively playing this or that MMO.

Now of course there are some reasons to leave Ryzom, and some of us did that, but would've been funny to leave upon what forums say or don't say, the people who leaved didn't enjoy the game, as simple.

Now Ryzom is not a mission based game (and on a personal note thanks Ma Duk it isn't half of my guild, me included might have never played it if it was) - if they like mission based games then probably Ryzom is just not their game.

So... all in all.. after 5 years of MMOs, I honestly say that Ryzom's official forums are more decent than most of those I've seen, with a huge section of RP and lore posts that few games can boast with. Technically the forums say nothing about how bugged/flawed the game is so the information is irrelevant without a player background. Emotionally there is very little of the turmoil one can "admire" elsewhere.

I haven't had trouble with Ryzom or any other game with Vista, don't let the naysayers slow you from getting a new box.
