chill out guys. why is everyone so serious, with their ego's on their sleeve.. this isnt the elite forum.. this is the general forum with general info.

this chart is for reference. it even says "mathematical". who is going out and testing these stats in game, saying to themselves "AHHH HAAAA!!!! THIS IS WRONG.. BALLISTIC MYSTIX CHART IS WRONG!!! I AM RIGHT, I AM THE WINNER!!!!" come on.. give me a break... there is bound to be a lightbulb in these peoples heads..."hmm i wonder why this was a lesser value... hmm i wonder why that didnt hit like i had anticipated?" they will figure it out..

so what your a PVP god who thinks he has the biggest set of balls in the world. this is a game my friend. A GAME.

if anything i think some thank you's go out to Ballistic Mystix for doing all this research. their website is amazing.

the chart is just to help out newer players, so they can get a rough idea of how things work. plain and simple.

i think viper's questions were answered, i just dont understand why people insist on throwing topics off track like this. it makes the population of atys look like ego freak jerks.

The chart simple shows which does the most damage, dosnt take into account that you can have jewels to resist 40%+ all elemental spells (not taking into account the amount of resists you'll get with gd jewels)

Dosnt show the efects of parry ect, dont use this as a guide of what skills are good, elemental magic is a must have, to be honest you'll find out everything there is to know about what skills are good ingame, any new players i can only recommend getting talking to people ingame, the majority of players will help explain things to you and recommend whats right.

Dont jump into the first guild that offers you a guild, i cant say how important that is!
99% of guilds will want you, just shop around, find a guild you feel really happy with.

May of gone off topic alot (blame vodka).

PS, what the hell are people talking about, Sunce your a gd pvper but even if you cud solo 20 people it would warrent your ego :p Love ya

Advantages of melee:
Parry (higher chance of not being hit), wearing heavy armor (more HP), Interuptions (when you hit a mage you have a high sucess of breaking their cast).

Advantages of magic:
Ranged (can hit someone from 50m away), high damage (elemental magic hits for hell of alot, great for bosses), switching between magic (you can change elemental magic to heal making it great for general purpose teams), afflictions (same as the last really, you can be use elemental for damage and the afflict to keep the mob/player busy and then elemental again).

The graph just shows damage per min, dosnt take into consideration the things i mentioned, you will need to lvl heal and elemental magic, melee however is more complex in terms of choice, i'd recommend doing axe or sword first, they are easy to lvl high damage / low stamina usage. Then if you wanna go back and do another melee, like 1h or daggers they are great for pvp, hit faster so more interuptions but higher stamina use.

See how you feel tho, thats my opinions, some people will master some really "hard" skills first, do whatever you enjoy! Thats the joy of ryzom, totally optional lvling, or do what many people like dont worry about lvls, role play, explore and just enjoy a stunning game.

Not alot more for me to add, i hope some of this helped (if i dont make sence plz say so im fairly drunk)

Pike was my weapon of choice. There was a damage nerf put on them in one of the patches to make them a bit less advantageous. In that patch, IIRC, axe damage was increased 20% while axe speed was reduced 20% compared to swords. Pikes IIRC got a 20% nerf while speed was increased by 10% and damage taken reduced by 10%. The goal was to make each weapon "different" without giving any one a distinct advantage.

Post patch axe became very popular. My guess is that peeps like seeing the bigger damage numbers rise across the screen. Though the dps of both sword and axe is the same and damage per second is still the same.....peeps somehow feel better I think seieng the bigger numbers.

Pike is a bit mnore sublime.....you do less damage and hit at faster rate but not fast enough so as to even out the dps. On the other hand you take less damage so that gives you a less direct advantage. But the fact that I will stand up 10% longer gives me time to get in 10% more hits before I get dead.

Now in PvE against a boss or when ya get adds, I think this makes pike the preferred weapon. I'm a bit more healer friendly taking less damage.....and I can also hold multiple mobs better using circular attack because the longer reach helps me hit and therefore "hold" more mobs. If I'm working magic in a plod group for example, I know that as a healer I can afford to pay a bit more attention to my mages.....as a elementalist, I know that I am gonna get whacked a lot les by clones and adds if my tank has a pike.

I don't do PvP but have watched a few battles and I am surprised that the pike isn't used more often. The ability to get inside a group of healers or mages and swing that loooong pikie in a circle would interrupt a lot of casts.

Dunno why axe is so good, stupidly high damage with slower speed means its easier to lvl solo (less stamina/hp usage per damage). Slash is great to lvl on all the mobs i think are best to lvl on, ie no resist on it. (Cratcha, najab and jugs).

Plus axe vrs HA unless you have max slash vrs your protection factor dosnt mean anything, makes boss armor silly vrs axe (aen, pei, lixie and sirgio boss armors), 60% PF is all very good but 1200+ damage on axe means you need a max vrs slash of 720 which is well above max.

All in all, i think axe is the best melee for your first melee, easy to solo and fairly amazing in pvp :)
