I dont know, but most common reason seems to be... OMG spam!!!!!!!

The only times I listen to Universe are to try to catch people asking questions that I might actually be able to help them with. The chatting and banter usually gets in the way, so I keep Universe muted.

Those who want to help will still listen to the Q&A channel, while others who just want to chatter with everyone in the game could do so over the general channel. Some may even want to do both. It's nice to hope that the population will increase to where this isn't needed, but that's not the case right now. Even after that, a universal chat channel would be enjoyable.

Without heavy moderation, however, I agree that a trade channel would quite likely become spam-ridden.

I don't see this board as something to address the issue, but it'd still be nice addition and would make trading more fun and interesting.
Why not add the board and the channel. Aslong as we can turn it off I don't really care either way.

Exactly, and I do really think it could be beneficial to new players...
Seems dreadful to have channels where noone speaks: world seems like empty.
Having a general chat channel would show new players that we are here and can have casual chat; it may even make it easier for them to dare ask question on Q&A, knowing that the world is actually populated...

I see no harm in a "chat channel" ....still don't think it would address my main beef of the self appointed "hall monitors" telling peeps what questions are / are not worthy of uni chat. As for the other channels....

lft requests belong in region IMO......no sense spamming level 89 peeps with "level 233 melee lft"

IMO, a trade channel is simply unecessary. I wouldn't care if there was one but I would disable it as i think would most people rendering it useless. For one, there is no economy....dappers are useless. So it's down to individual negotiation on how many and which grind mats you have to dig to get what you want. Don't wanna wade thru line after line of that. There's vendors which store crafted items. By the time you can benefit from anything "special" you already know who is capable of crafting it.
