Ah, I see where the desire for an RP tag comes from then. If perhaps one in every hundred people you meet is willing to roleplay, then yes, I would be very much in favor of such a tag. I suppose I'm lucky I've never played any of those games :)

My experience in Ryzom is that we have a lot of 'semi-roleplayers', and that even a lot of the people who aren't roleplayers are still happy to play along with those who are. So I feel we don't really need such an RP tag here.

That's an improvement over having just "RPer" or "non-RPer", and would make me somewhat more welcoming to the idea.

But it still feels a bit forced. If there are 10 strangers standing at the stable, why would your character strike up a conversation with one of them (the one with the RP-tag on) and ignore everyone else? :o

I'm afraid I have to agree. I've met my share of RPers who don't only look down on non-RPers, but also look down on anyone who doesn't roleplay according to 'their standards'. Very bad for the image of roleplaying and still the reason why I hesitate to call myself a 'roleplayer' even though most would consider me one.

Luckily, I've found that to be very rare in Ryzom, which was a large part of the reason I enjoyed it here :) . Even the most enthusiastic RPers were usually happy to play along with non-RPers, doing their best to respond to them without breaking their own playstyle.

She could always be serving the drinks ;)

But yes, I agree with your observation. There have been, in many places, roleplayers that tout themselves as 'better than'. If they don't want to play with nonroleplayers or OOCers or whatever we want to call people who don't roleplay, then that's okay, I think. So long as they don't go complaining about the nonroleplayers. We all have a playstyle, and I think this community has done a GREAT job of allowing all our different playstyles to work and live together in relative harmony...

I could be delusional. Being driven crazy is a short ride.

Oh, and as an aside - I think EVERY 'group' of player type, and many individuals are guilty of the "expressing views that make it seem like they look down on _______". ;)
I dont judge you Jez, I actually like you quite alot.
I said MOST EXPRESS, means some do, some dont. I just mentioned its why they usually get hated.
Same reasons as PvPers are hated in some games. We also express **** opinions sometimes. I do it all the time :p

Then again, I also enjoy writing the casual RP story.

i don't count myself as a hardcore rp person but i will always try and interact with someone that is activley RP'ing and try to remain in charactor.
Most of the time i am ooc but a little RP is fun.
Sadly i missed the samsara pub nights but would be interested in something similar for sure any excuse to be a slacker and chill for the evening :p

Yeah I missed that kind of thing that I had in World of Warcraft and just to say, I don't mean to sound all elitist when I make these posts, but this is the kind of thing that's happened when I've tried to roleplay in most MMORPG's it's kind of put me off roleplaying to be honest because I often start wondering if it's really worth taking all the roleplayer hate just so you can roleplay with the few people that do actually like roleplaying, though thankfully I haven't experienced anything like that in Ryzom yet.

Ok that's it! I gotta try and make a cool pub type scenario for the Ring. Just last night I was ending a LONG night of aggravation (I can honestly say it was my first one in Ryzom ever) near the stables, getting ready to go out for some levelling.
I started role-playing with some people, and it was so fun, it was just for a minute. I am going to log in right after breakfast and build something. I think it was JEnna that mentioned doing a mastered Scenario so that the host couldact as the NPC's. Pretty cool!

I really do not understand the complaint, I would guess that 90% of the around speech I encounter is in character. Of course, I do talk to my reflection a good bit.

it's not really a complaint to be honest, the roleplaying I've managed to find is great, it's just it's so hard to find, that's the main thing.

I imagine that the most critical reason for roleplayers seeming to have an attitude, in general, is that we seem to be in the minority in the mmoRPG scene, strangely. Roleplaying is also a skill - some people are more able than others - but I don't think I have ever come across a good roleplayer putting someone else down for their efforts. Invariably, roleplayers encourage each other, everyone, to make the virtual world a little more alive. Like Sidusar, I'm very happy to say that Ryzom is extremely roleplayer friendly, especially when I compare it to my experiences of other mmorp games.

Roles3, I'm curious about what you're having difficulty finding. I don't profess to be much of a roleplayer, I only aspire to be better, but I think everyone I talk to ingame is always very happy to try to respond as best they can whenever someone simply plays in character. More player RP events would surely be welcome, but almost any RP event is likely to exclude some people simply because of their personal bent.

Oh and in case people were still wanting an example of what i've experienced from Ryzom here it is!

<random player> "Hello"
Lethn nods politely
Lethn sheathes his sword and glances around
<Lethn> "Hello there"
<random player> "What are you doing mate?"
<Lethn> "Training what else?"
Lethn grins
<random player> "Yeah lol"
<random player> "you dont have guild?"
<Lethn> "ooc: Yo, i'd like to roleplay rather than chat oocily sometimes :P and no i don't, but i'm applying for one
<random player> "im going to el"
<Lethn> "Good luck"
Draws his sword
<random player> "cya m8"

Now honestly this is me trying hard to roleplay regardless of whether the person is ooc or IC but to be honest, when the player makes no effort at all then that's what gets me annoyed and driven away from the idea of roleplaying on MMORPG's I did try, but as you can see, he just wasn't paying any attention :P though I have to admit, he was a lot more polite than some other players I've met who are just completely ooc on other MMORPG's like WoW and such.
